CD skipping??

hey, i'm pretty new to DJ'ing but i've come across a problem! when im mixing at home, the CD sometimes skips, my CD player (Citronic MPCD-4) has anti shock, and shows the memory of it from 0-12, never drops below 10 or 11 but the CD still skips sometimes! the speakers are fairly close to the cd players and it sits on not the most sturdy surface... is this due to bad CD's or just vibrations from the speakers? all my CD's i mix with are compiled from legally purchased CD's then i select the tracks i want and reburn them, i use good quality CD's and burnt at no more than 8x speed...

Anyone got any ideas or help?
skip
bad cd/bad player i'd say

welcome to mixing CDs :P

I'de say sell em and get yourself a pair of CDJ 200s. I don't own them, but I recommend them to a lot of people. I have CDJ 1000 MK2s, which are quite expensive. But the CDJ 200s are the most reliable budget CDJs on the market, they are almost on par with the CDJ 1000s, except for the vinyl emulation.

lol, yes it is really annoying! i've only just started DJ'ing, takes me like, 1 minute at lesat to beatmatch it, then it skips! argh!!! haahah and i can't afford cdj200's, i looked around, but basically i wanted a cheapish set up to start up... im hoping its just not gonna do it at my first gig this saturday!

thanks anyway guys

I've never noticed this with my CDJ-1000s. I've never heard of it either.

I understand that not everbody can spring for a pair of CDJ-1000s but I don't think this is the 'norm' for CD mixing.

Are budget CD players knows for this?

they aren't THAT budget... like.... RRP of like $1500 australian... their website says 500 UK Pounds... for that sort of money i expect a dual CD player to not skip.... i reckon it could be just the set up i have... need to get something more sturdy

yeah, it's probably a bad burn or bad hardware. my denon's do that occasionally if there's minor scratches in the disc :whip:

just pitch bend up on the skipped track until you match the snares again and usually it'll correct the phrase-matched problem

what speed are you burning your cd's at. Dont burn them too fast or this will happen, keep it to 24x MAX!!!

:)

hehe moondog my advice to you is to read his post before trying to help. He already mentioned that he burns at 8x.
Melbourne dj... where you playing and what? Stop spending so much money on your vl and put it towards the cds.
