Dear Nathan:

I probably will not be able to [go to my graduation] because I am deploying to the Persian Gulf for one year starting in June. I will leave in early June. I will operate in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. I just learned this last week. I was not expecting this, but I guess this is the price of being in the Army. I haven't deployed [to iraq] since 2003, so I guess it was my turn to deploy again. I will keep you informed. One thing will be for sure and that is that over there I will call you on your cell phone.

I am back from Singapore. My next trip is on 20 March to Israel for six days.

Nathan: I am at the airport waiting to board my plane to Israel. I will first
stop
at Frankfurt, change planes, and on to Israel. I will search for an
Israeli
flag and will send you currency as you asked me. Hopefully everything
will
go fine. I am not enjoying travel anymore because now I think the whole
time
about deploying again. It's going to be a long year. I should have
volunteered to go when they where sending people for only six months.
Oh
well, it is too late now.

If you write me this week and I do not answer it is because my
Blackberry
does not work in Israel. Take care of yourself and be good at school
and
work.

this sucks:(

Oh man, i'm sorry to hear that. Is he a soldier or an officer? Does he see any combat?

My friend just got deployed to Afghanistan about a week ago. Kinda scary.
::TranceVanDyk::
he's a colonel, been an officer since 1981, tank commander to 1991, worked in washington since 1996, and now he's doing all these high level trips around the world. i have no idea what he does as a job, but im just told, it's "international military cooperation negociating."

he went in the invasion of panama in 1990 i believe, bosnia in 1995, iraq for 3 months in 2003, and now again there.

the only combat he told me about is during the iraqi freedom 2003, several scud missiles landed about 1/4 mile from his bunker. thats it, thank god.
dj_bas
Well that's good. Sounds like he's pretty high up, he'll return safely :D

Yes. It's called going AWOL, or desertion. Either way it's bad.
