JP8080 Synth + Cubase help
View this Thread in Original format
Troia
I got my very first hard synth the other day (JP8080) and i'm still getting used to the whole "hardware" scene so i'm a little confused.

It sounds great and all but i'm having a few problems with it.

For example, lets say I recorded a cool bassline in cubase. I dont know if theres another way to do this, but I believe i have to audio mixdown the bassline into a wav file so i can start making other sounds with the jp8080. But whenever i audio mixdown either the track or the bassline itself, the bassline wont play in the mp3 or wav file. (If i audio mixdown the entire track, just the bassline wont play)

So i was wondering if i even had to do this, because when i try to start a new sound, the old bassline that i recorded will sound like whatever i just made and not the original sound i wanted.

I dont know if that makes sense..... but im sure theres a real easy explanation for it

Thanks

i have a similar problem with my jp8000 in cubase. mine wont let me automate. theres loads of threads on the jp8000. do a search they might help you.

so apparently, i need to be recording audio from the jp8080 instead of midi....

i guess this is why the arpeggiator doesnt record into cubase, it just records the note that i play...

can anyone shead some light for me, or know of a good recording tutorial (cubase if possible)
dj_kane
yea my arpeggiator also doesnt record in cubase

would love to know how to fix it

I'm confused.. if you guys are sending midi to the JP, and even with the arp turned on, as long as you're recording whatever's coming into your soundcard input it should all be fine.. or am I missing something here?

here is my current settings for my jp8000

or is there another output i should have it connected to?

record the midi part first.. so cubase plays your jp for you...

now create a new track (audio) and plug the audio outs from th jp into your audio in of you pc.

press the little speaker button(monitor) on the audio track so you can hear it playing...

now set the start point to just infront of where your midi starts and select the new audio track so its highlighted..

make sure the arp settings and patch you wanted are selected on you jp.

now hit record.

it should start recording audio from the jp. record the section of midi you want and hit stop.

now press the speaker button on the audio track so it goes from yellow back to grey. rewind to the beginning of the midi part and press play.

the audio should play now...:)

if the speaker button is yellow it means you are listening to the audio in realtime. when its grey you hear the same but it is the recorded ssample of what you played..

remember that if you record midi from a hardware synth then you dont wanna be changing the patch while its recording or the change will also get recorded. as will if you play with any knobs on the hardware- which im sure you will do..

hope that helps a bit

ok just when i thought my problem was solved it isnt, well part of it still needs to be sorted. the jp works in cubase and i can automate although when i do a mixdown the sounds from the jp doesnt come out with the mixdown.

anyone experienced or know a cure for this problem?

thanks!
