Jon O'Bir The Residency 01 New Mix Album Series on Baroque Records

Baroque Records
Residency 01 – Jon O’Bir
RELEASE DATE: 1st May 2006
Label: Baroque
Distribution: Amato
Website: www.baroquerecords.com

•Baroque records launch their new Residency series, which is going to feature mixes from the world’s hottest resident DJs

•Trance superkid Jon O’Bir will kick-start the series

Jon is single handedly creating the nu-breed of trance with his progressive yet uplifting sound and has been going from strength to strength over the past few years since winning the M8 magazine DJ competition. He is resident at super club Godskitchen, has had an mixes aired on Fergie’s, Pete Tong’s and Judge Jules’ Radio One shows, Plus his highly acclaimed Essential Mix which led to his very own series of Radio 1 shows, as part of their Radio One Residency program … there just seems to be no stopping him.

As well as his residency at Godskitchen Jon also plays at every major club and festival you could care to mention. And with gigs at such far flung countries as Hong Kong, Cyprus & the USA his legion of fans are now growing internationally as well as on a national scale.

In terms of his own productions, Jon has collaborated with similarly impressive upstart Gareth Emery (GTR) and his favourite producer, Airwave, on a track titled Promise (featured exclusively on this mix), and to top it all off Jon has his own successful record label ‘Conspiracy Recordings’.

Jon is seen as the champion of the current trance sound, so what a better way to start off this series. And if this mix is anything to go by Baroque will be seeing a fair few more stunning mixes down the line of their Residency series…

quality stuff, tracklisting looks alright, nothing special, but jons got a great style and knows how to lay a set down. every live set i have of his is top notch, set flow is 2nd to none.

jons deffo topped for great stuff in the future, as well as at the present with conspiracy recordings with some awsome stuff coming out from there, one to look out for sure.

Is this series based on the Radio 1 show? Will the others (Eddie Halliwell, Nic Fanciulli, etc.) be releasing future compilations?

As Jon has now left Radio 1's The Residency (did he jump or was he pushed?), it's probably only incidental that this is the name of the new mix series. Jon is a resident at Godskitchen, as the promotional text says, so this is probably what it's all about.

I'm surprised Baroque have chosen Jon O'Bir to do the mix, but it looks absolutely cracking.

I think its just a cocindence with the radio 1 residency and the mix series will probably focus on residents in big clubs etc

In my humble opinion Jon O'Bir is right up there with the best spinners of trance in the world just now. Has a great feel for the music he feels and connects with clubbers well. Plus he nearly always plays new tunes which in the big guns can be a rareity and they end up anthem bashing.

Pity the compilation got put back for a couple of months or the tracklist would have appeared more fresh than it will be on release

Woah. What's that ASOT-trance doing on Baroque? Have they gone bonkers?

Baroque has been ruined ever since Ridgewalkers - Find got the hammered out of it.

Are you serious? I really think they've released some wicked stuff since Find. Just a few examples;

Ryukyu - Underground Seragaki
Steve May Blend Forty-3
Thomas Penton - Deeper Vowels
Inkfish vs. Martin H - Eye M
D-Nox & Beckers - You're A Star
Innate & Central Rush - End Of The Tunnel

If anything I think their sound has changed for the better. To each his own though.

However, it's a bit odd to see Jon O'Bir releasing a pretty trancey cd on a mostly progressive label. It just shows you that trance and progressive (DJ's producers & labels) are forging together. I never thought I would see the day where Matthew Dekay would remix a Above & Beyond track. The same can be said for Baroque releasing a trance cd.

Hi All

Firstly thanks for the comments on this release.

Jon very kindly agreed to mix the first in our new cd series 'residency' for us.

We aim to cover all genres of music with this series, taking in some of the worlds very best resident djs, and so one of the reasons we asked Jon to be the first was that he wasn't a progressive dj. Being a progressive label we felt that if we had kicked things off with a progressive DJ it might pigeon hole the series from the start.. and we really aim to cover pretty much everything with this new residents series... and 2nd reason we asked Jon is that he is one of the worlds most exciting young DJs right now , whom we knew we could rely onto turn in something special!

Anyway hope that answers a few questions & keep a look out for the cd release , first week in may... you will be able to get the cd a week ahead of release on our website www.baroquerecords.co.uk

for those intrested we have the Shiloh Artist album following this ( which includes colabs /remixes from Luke Chable, Infusion & David West )

Thanks again for the comments guys & gals, please feel free to email us with any more [email protected]

See Ya!
