What is generally tolerated in Canada could result in a life sentence in the US.

I'm really not sure where I stand on this issue. While I haven't smoked weed in a long time, I could care less if anyone else smokes it, as long as they aren't driving totally baked. While I think Crack, Heroin, PCP & Crystal are a clear and obvious danger to society & should remain illegal; weed & ecstasy while may be bad for your health, certainly aren't a public safety problem, and the money going into prosecuting those drug crimes would be spent better keeping murderers, car jackers, women beaters, bank robbers, rapist, child molesters, and people that sell heroin & crack to inner city children
in jail permanently.

While most of that doesn't suprise me, what really did suprise me was the Organized Crime Summary where it stated that 70 percent of Vancouvers street youth do crystal. Until recently, I thought that Crystal was mostly only a U.S. problem. As for the 70 percent number - that's horrible. I wonder what is being done about it.

70% do meth or 70% have tried it. I'd say there's a pretty huge difference in that.

I did notice the article on meth on
www.yorku.ca/nathanson/CurrentEvents/Q2_2005.htm

said that studies show 70% of Vancouvers street youth have used it, but it doesn't give any kind of break down on their frequency of use. It also doesn't say whether drug addiction is the cause or the result of the majority of those youth being homeless. Considering how excessively it rains there in the winter, being homeless there must be a real miserable existence there.

Everything else aside, lets look at what we have here.

A millionaire pro-marijuana activist has a high profile case in the United States, the money to pay for trial, and a plethora of legitimate support.

I'd watch this one, it could turn into a landmark decision. Too early to tell at this point, but we'll see where it goes.

P.S. In the interest of posting early, could we please keep this thread relevant to the issue at hand. Make your posts pertinent and sensible to the topic that is this arrest and trial of Marc Emery. We don't need another pot head alliance thread, find that in the COR.

I have been following this case and it irks me as an American that this is even happening.

I will wait to see how this all unfolds.

My prediction is that he will get at least 10 years, the occasion will be celebrated with a massive campaign of media demonizing pot, and it will only cause the DEA to get larger and more aggresive.

Times like these cause me to hope that criminals can continue to break the law. I feel as though todays criminals aren't as daring as previous generations and I fear that the shrinking powers of our criminals gives our government a free pass to mandate increasingly crazy rules and meddle more and more in our lives. So please criminals of the world, better yourselves for the benefit of mankind.

Criminals in some way help keep our governments in check and invent all sorts of fun things like raves and nascar, they are the greatest of all neccessary evils.
