What is the deal with bitrates?
I know 320 is pretty much CD quality & can be played out in clubs. How bad does 192 sound when played out? What is VBR?
Can you convert a 192 bitrate MP3 to a 320 one?
I am looking to get Final Scratch 2 & using a combination of MP3 & Vinyl...
Also I use iTunes to organize my music & iVolume to try & get it all the same volume. My question is does iVolume affect the track in terms of playing it out in a club? |

Yes but I doubt you'll notice much of a difference....just like converting a 320 to a WAV, no difference really...once the info is compressed into a 320, you wont get that info back. It's only a small amount though, so really 320 Kbps is fine, 192 for that matter is fine as well, anything below that is questionable, but do try to only keep it 192 and above if you have to. |

Variable Bitrate, it means that there isn't a consistent Bitrate throughout so at different points in the track, low or high, determines what the bitrate is. It goes all over from like 192 to say 256 at different points in a track. I've heard 320 kbps MP3s and 192 Kbps VBRs and there isn't much of a difference (buy the same track on beatport, one 320 Kbps CBR MP3 and the other 192 Kbps VBR MP4 and you'll see, not much of a difference). I haven't heard 320 Kbps VBR MP3s, I don't even know if they exist. I have heard that VBR does bring out some highs better in certain tracks, I don't really think that's true though, esp with a 320 Kbps MP3 encoded with LAME, that's top notch quality, the closest your going to get to a WAV on an MP3... |

I dont know why people ask can you convert a lower quality sample to higher quality. Its obviouse... You can not add something that is not there. |

| You could probably get away with playing lesser known songs at 192, seeing as no one really has anything to compare it to. Besides, alot of it has to do with how the track was mastered. I have 192kbps mp3s that sound MUCH better than some 320kbps or CD tracks. |

That's True.
Just Keep the quality over 192 kbps and everythign will be fine. |
