Are the specs for this game that demanding? I don't have a proper graphics card..and i've been hoping on getting one soon. So all i can use right now is my onboard intel extreme.. :( Which is why im asking.. is it possible to run this game on very very very low specs? I took one of those test thingys..at nvidia and it said i failed mainly due to my graphics. But when i took the test for 3 other games..Empire at War,AOE3 and Civ4..they said i failed as well. But i can run those games on low specs. I asked my friend and he was like..well remember morrowind? you might be able to run it in 800x600 low low low = looking like that. I just want to play the game..lol i've been wanting to ever since i saw previews of it last spring. |
Well the thing about Oblivion is that there's just so much going on with regards to weather, textures, character schedules, etc... I'm not sure what to suggest to you... but maybe you can borrow it from a friend to try it out first. I'll say one thing... my system's never been so strained even compared to other resource-hungry games like FEAR. There's just WAY too much going on in the game at any given time.
Yohan, next time you stop by I'll show it to you... ;) |

| Apparently..this game is buggy as hell. I've spent like my entire day reading the forum boards at elderscrolls.com..and a vast majority of people are having issues with it. Hopefully a patch will come along soon. |

I have a 2.4Ghz athlon 64 (3700+ slightly overclocked on stock volts), 2GB of ram and a ATI X1800XT 512MB video card. Using my LCD's native resolution (1600 X 1200) the game runs like a bag of e. Even turning down details does nothing. Using a lower 1024 x 768 the frames are high except in the wilderness where again my fps drops to 28 which for me i cant play at. Also using a lower res than my native NEC LCD2080UXi makes the game look terrible and blury.
This is a console game through and through, Im writing this from a hardcore pc gamers perspective so dont think im saying this game is becuase i aint. Its just not suited to the pc, the developers have from a profitable buisness point (the major downfall for pc's when it comes to cross platform releases) have cashed in on the console market and the pc version suffers for it.
If you own a PC with a low end video card and proccessor and you must play this game, save the money from upgrading and buy yourself a 360. Or stick to the pc, buy yourself a copy of morrowind and download a high res texture pack. |

I'm 42 hours in, and have only encountered one bug (:whip: Fighter's Guild Harlun's Watch/Swampy Cavern quest).
I like how guild quests have more of a story to them than in Morrowind. Sure, those standard fetch quests are still there, but they have some backstory to them. Very beautiful game, even at low-mid settings.
The only thing I have against the game is that it suffers from what I call the "Doom 3 syndrome," where every dungeon is dark. You don't need to carry a torch or Light/Night Eye spell around, but without them, it really makes dungeons dull. Another small problem I have with the game is the low variety of armors available, mostly due to the fact that they completly removed an armor type (Medium Armor). And then there's the fact that enemies are equipped according to your level, so at later levels, everyone will be carrying Daedric or Glass armor, but I've no doubt that player mods will fix this.
All in all, worth a purchase. |

I'm really enjoying this game, I wondered up into the hills around the main city and took some screenies:

Yeah there are certainly some bugs here... but following the tweaker forums, no doubt, there'll be a new patch available soon. Even some of the latest video card drivers are being tweaked specifically for this game (tweaksrus.com for nvidia drivers). Also, tweakguides.com should have a manual tweak guide available soon too.
The GOOD thing about these problems is that since it's single player, they give you the option of tweaking the INI file as much as you like. If you know what you're doing, you can clean the game up to function properly with your specific system specs.
I agree that this game was designed for the 360 and that even monster pcs are having some troubles with the fps... but this is the way the best pc games have worked.... they force you to upgrade when it's a next gen game.
To those that are looking to run it on a low end system with the lowest settings.... don't hold your breath. It's not a matter of how slow it'll run on your system and whether or not you can be patient enough... in a lot of these cases, the game won't even be able to draw properly on your screen. |

| Looks awesome. I just don't have the system to run it. :( You can finally buy 360s in the store so maybe I should go that route. Whats the framerate like on the 360? Smooth as silk? Does it slow down at all? |
