Do these strings sound to fake / crap?

In this sample I have used Spectrasonics atmosphere for the strings. While I have no doubt the better sample libarys out there would probley blow these away in realism I quite like these and are ultra realstic strings essential for trance like this anyway.

They sound Mellotronish o me (They're not) but they have that tone. Go ind some K2000 / K2500 string samples. They're small, and on their own don't sound awesome, ut stick hem in a mix and they rock..

Nice progression though.. ;-)

If they don't sound real, it will be unilaterally rejected by trance fans everywhere.

Case in point: Tiesto -- Suburban Train

Hey. These are ok strings but they definitely dont sound realistic. One of the factors that give it away are when you shift notes fast. With a bow instrument, shifting notes gives a slight pause, a sloped attack and a slight drop in pitch when you draw the bow across the strings. Also, take into consideration that bows are not infinitely long and you have to reverse the force on the bow, which is like starting a new note. Correct those bits and they will sound more realistic :).

Yea, I love the sound you have going, but it's not smooth. Like it jumps from note to note, and its too easy to notice.

Hey,

With the exception of the very abrupt note changes, the sound is very clean. I like it a lot. But you know how real strings have kind of like trembles and stuff and dynamics. Maybe play with the sounds a little bit. But hey they sound great to me!

Mate,

I've just listened to the strings youve made in atmosphere - they sound absolutely amazing to me and I think they will work well in the context of a track.

Just to be cheeky, you couldnt tell me how you made them could you?

I have atmosphere but struggle to get sounds like that from it :(

Cheers,
John

Thanks for all the replys. Some very useful feed back which I wil be
implementing for all future works with strings.

satchboy69 The strings I have used are a preset called Cathedral string orchesta and it has not been edited at all. Or if was stuff like how to write strings like that then I can break it down into small sections and post examples for you to hear if you feel that would help you.

( Carn't post anything on chords or what keys I produce in cos I havn't got a clue what all that means. I just sit down and play lol )

in the context of trance they sound great, you don't always need 'real'

although, for real, as i mentioned in the 'go to' vst thread, "East West Symphonic Orchestra Gold" all the way for realism!
