ok serious answers here:
Depending on how bad the mental state of the patient is, would alter your treatment for them. Not to sure what your scenario is but is it a drug overdose, or is it induced psychosis.

The initial assessment is probably the most important and is usually obtained just by talking/watching them. Things you need to look out for would include if the patient had visual or auditory hallucinations, if they are unable to comprehend what you are asking. Paranoia is a good one, they also have no emotional expression (always good if they have half an arm hanging off). Then would be are you able to get a medical history off them ie medications, what they are on, when they last took them ect.

And if all else fails give them a sedative and transport them unco to emerg :haha: im sure you could talk about the moral issues with that :p

actually now that you mention it the chocolate river did overflow around 30 years ago because the oompa loompas went on strike (damn unions) and it ended up flowing into the yarra, that is why if you drink the water you get the faintest taste of chocolate.

disclaimer: the gene wilder corporation takes no responsibility for the health of people that drink water from the yarra, and the health risks associated have nothing to do with the quality of its chocolate.

yeah got most of that already.. recognised the dual diagnosis facotr and all that jazz (how every case is individualised) more looking for anyone with some personal experiences with us (them) and how the interventions take/took place, talking the patient down etc, moral/ethical questions that may be raised, and if there is a need to development of specific interventional protocols (recipes) specific to ambulance practice ie midaz etc. and then tie it back into the mental health act.

we once got called out to one house that the inside was covered in foil because apparently the satellites were sending messages to him :eyes:
that was a real eye opener, only the cat team could convince him to come out, thing is you have to remove all uniforms because they have this deep seed that everyone is out to get them, so if the police are standing there watching you cant do anything.

yeah, anyone notice how fvcking conceited or self-important mad people are? theyre god, or god talks to them, or the govt is after them. nobody ever goes crazy and suddenly starts believing theyre a dog, or a simple village fisherman called bill do they? thats definitely where 'delisions of grandeur' came from.

there should definitely be a reality tv program with crazy people.
