so the CPE is basically a contract for young workers aged of less of 26 years...this contract seems perfect except you can be fired for any movitations .....for example you are a woman ...you get pregnant your boss can fire you .....you fell sick ...same thing .....furthermore if u work having a CPE then the bank won't give u the right to have a credit because your situation is precarious ...you want to rent an appartment .....well no chance because with a CPE since u can be fired at any moment...u have all except stability ......so right now in every towns in this country students are demonstrating ......and even though i was so far pro government this time im not ....i want villepin our prime minister cancels his plan to adopt the CPE ......when i see my university (law school ) in bordeaux is the only open still open whereas all the others uni are closed ....im upset .....law school is famous to be pro government it's full of sons of lawyers notaries judges ....very posh ....and they keep telling u they just don't care about salaries and that later they will be the boss so the CPE they don't care or are for it ......what france is that?egality will be soon an old memory ....

i would like to say that maybe u saw on TV images of people breaking stuffs cars and everything ....these people are not students !these people are the same kind of people that did the riots in november in france .....don't mix them up

this CPE business sounds pretty messed up! i'm glad we have unions and things in the US...

France needs the CPE, the French people's ignorance is striking imo. Your youth unemployemnt is REALLY high and obviously something needs to be done, and I think this would be a great way of doing something.

If the French economy was in a healthy state and unemployment was low then I would totally understand the reasoning behind demonstrating this, but now anyone with a little ecnomic sense would realise that something needs to be done.

Oh well, it's your problem really...

erik u know i love ya and ur my dear friend but damn why do u think like one of these stupid politician? seriously why instead of making this contract don't we reduce the fiscality on compagnies so with less taxes they would hire more .....it would be better for the economy .....do u think precarious jobs make an economy better?ur right my dear because i also forgot to say that the trial period with this contract is 2 years so ok u get a job but u work like a crazy for 2 years hoping to have the job and then after 2 years the boss tells u "no thank u " .....seriously do u think it's fair?

Okay, cutting employers tax surely would help, however then you would have to cut somewhere else in your "welfare society", and it might not have the effect that you want although it probably would help a little (especially since employers in France have to pay like twice what they pay in the UK). Look at denmark though, they have one of the world's highest taxes (if not the highest), and they still got youth unemployment that is only a fraction of yours. You know why? Because they have laws that makes it easier for their employees to hire and fire! In that way you can keep your "welfare society" in the same way as you get much lower unemployment.

Plus, it's not like you would get really ty jobs because of this new law, you would get exactly the same jobs but on different conditions, and more importantly YOU WOULD GET A JOB (higher chances anyway). Plus not a whole lot of employers would just fire you after 2 years for no reason, they would most likely keep you if you are doing a good job!

Well this sounds preety messed up, especialy that part that says you can get fired over something you have no control over (like getting sick, i assume this also implies if you for instance have an accident and need a few weeks of medical treatment). I dont know how the state of french economy or anything about its internal politics but i really dont see how this is supposed to help it. Ok so youth unemployment is supposebly really high, but i fail to see how getting fired for no good reason will help the unemployment rate to go down (then again i dont know a thing about this so if anyone could explain in a way that even an idiot could understand it wold be apperciated :D )

To be honest im not suprised by this and am amazed that you are. Being somes of lawyers, notaries and judges means that they probably arent low on money so even if junior cat get approved for credit becouse of the CPE, daddy can always come to the rescue with his stash of credit cards.

I don't think anyone has anything against french firms being able to fire lousy workers, but having a right to fire someone for no reason whatsoever is not really the way to go against unemployment or economic stagnation.

And the French think they are the best country in the world? pfff

:p
Moongoose
Well no they dont, and even if they did at least they dont keep saying it so much that everybody else is fed up with them. Most people still like the french.

Just heard on the news that the talk are going nowhere becouse De Villepin is still insisting that the law will be passed no matter what unless of course the sky falls on his head (asterix reference here :D).

In related news slovenian students are not satisfied with how the goverment treats them(us), but they still had time apparently (after they walked out on a meeting with our goverment as a sign of protest) to stage a small protest infront of the french embassy in support of the french students.

Well as far as I understands it, you can't really fire anyone because they are "lousey" today, you have to have a much better explanation.
