Radio Edits

Ok so alot of trance songs get radio edits due to how long they are. What is the exact process of making a radio edit? Do the radio stations just do this on their own? Or does the artist include a radio edit with the original. And if the artist does, howmuch do you change the structure and so forth?

Thanks :)

if the artist wants any radio airplay whatsoever, they make a radio edit

structure depends on every song. usually they get rid of breakdowns and have the chorus and other important sections of the song. the beginning would be majorly cut and the end would be as well.

latest trance song i heard with a radio edit was ronski speed with stoneface and terminal - incognition.

The radio station rarely does it for them. Very rarely.

As for how the artist...well, you're taking a 7-12 minute song, and making it under 4 minutes. It's as hard as it sounds. Intro-outro can knock off three minutes, if you're lucky, and shortening the breakdown can knock off a little more...

Shoot, I took a 9-minute into a 7-minute recently, and that had me contemplating suicide.
