Ive mainly programmed trance and techno ,old skool techno ,for a while ,but eventually i would like to make a few progressive ,hard trance tracks .
so my question would be ,for someone who does progressive trance, is how would i go about making a progressive trance anthem/riff .
since right now (im programming uplifting/happy trance).
So what would be my best bet to make a riff sound progressive.
Im not talking about the percussion just the riff. |

This is quite possibly the most unanswerable question ever asked on this forum.
I'll tell you what. Listen to ton of progressive trance. Then listen to more. If you haven't figured out what a "progressive riff" is after that, then you'll be ready to make "progressive riffs." If you have figured it out by then, then you can tell the rest of us, because I'm sure we're all eager to know. |

Pay attention. I'm saying that no one knows what it is makes progressive trance stand out from normal trance. The fact is, there's no one thing.
Trust me, if you listen to enough prog trance, the ideas will start to surface in your head. People keep saying that looking to other artists for inspiration makes you sound samey, but that's bull; everyone has something to bring to a genre when they begin, but they can't do it without knowing first how to do it. |

You'll need a meaty bassmat. i.e. use a subby sine(+saw) as a pad.
And what thoughtlessjex said. |

The only help i can give is to use lush pads, make your kicks less pointy and use reverb. Ive been into tech-trance most of my trance listening life but the past few months ive gotten into prog and attempted producing it and i can say its actually really really hard its not like other genres that you can press buttons and you get a song you can dance too. |

Now that just isn't true and you know it. Some people just aren't creative. |

I'll try and answer your question, though I'm not so good at that kind of stuff ;)
1) open your sequencer
2) draw a techno melody
3) here is where it becomes interesting. You have 2 choices now: you can either click on the anthem button several times until it sounds really anthemic, or else you can turn the rotary button called "progressive riff" to about 75 % , giving your melody a nice progressive touch.
4) it's done ! now you can post it on TA. |
