The shooter is described as a local man in his late 20s.

Let's continue to slander the 20-somethings, shall we?

The gunman also had a handgun, police said. Kerlikowske said the gunman mainly used a 20-gauge pistol-grip shotgun, " a weapon not designed for hunting purposes but for hunting people."

Specifically saying he went there to hurt people...

um I think he did go there to hurt people... he showed up with a gun and shot them.

and the description for his age would have been there regardless of what age he was, it's kinda standard info when it comes to crime reports.

Yeah, but you're not really going to see many articles about 40+ people going around shooting others at parties, do you? Being young (relatively 20-something) gives a lot more sway with the media and violence. There are more crimes done by those who are young -- at least, what we continue to hear in the news.

As for hurting them, yeah, obviously he went there to hurt them. Reinstating the fact by describing what types of guns he had is kinda silly, at least IMO. Of course if he shot a bunch of people and then committed suicide he went there to hurt people. It just seems weird; I read that all the time in the Toronto Star where they rewrite the same sentence over to give the story more punch or just copy/paste it again when its on the web. :conf:

Then again, we all knew that.

5 polish guys were walking around punching cars and when they saw us they jumped on us and started punching us for no reason

my buddy got beaten bad but i think he broke some guys nose and they gave me few shots to the head but nothing bad

if your car got ed up at the parking lot of lcbo let me know cuz i know what they look like, i always see them at guv or the drink

I'm sticking by my original points that the shooters age is always stated in these kinds of articles. the fact he was a 20 something has nothing to do with it. maybe we don't see as much about 40 year olds doing similar things because most people tend to get less extreme and more mature as they age past their 30's. you can see it prisons across the united states and canada... some of the most feared inmates have significantly chilled out to the point that guards can actually deal with them as they get older.

I think the comments about telling what kinds of guns he had was news worthy as well. the fact he was carrying that much ammo and weapons tells readers that this was planned and that if he had not been confronted by police he likely would have continued the shootings. personally a guy driving down my block with an ak47 in the trunk is something most people might want to know about.

As for rewritting the same sentances. this is often found in stories that make headlines. if the story is partly shown on one page and partly on a continued page they often re-instate important details for those who may just be flipping to the second page and may have missed the first bit. The web stories are usually just the text version of the paper edits, that's why they are the same.

apparently we are about on par.

we may not have the mass shootings in Toronto but we do seem to have a bunch of individual ones every year, likely totaling the same number of deaths that we saw in Seatle.
