I had the pleasure of warming up for Jeff Mills back in 2004 when he was promoting his "Exhibitionist" DVDs and I'll be the first person to admit that I didn't deserve to use the same decks he did. My God, he did 3 deck mixing for over 3 hours and mixed in elements of techno, house, deep house, acid house, and even tribal. I was fortunate enough to be standing 5 feet away from him while he did this in total awe. When he was finished and I plugged my headphones into the mixer, I stared right at him for 5 seconds and just nodded. He knew exactly what I was thinking, nodded right back, and very neatly put his records into his bag. The man is pure class, genius, and talent all rolled into one.

The most interesting thing to me is how quickly he can get two records locked together. It generally takes me, and I'm known to be pretty quick at this myself, 25-30 seconds to get two records beatmatched. It took Jeff Mills all of 7 seconds to do the same. Granted he's adjusting them on the fly, but for Christ's sake, he's so damn quick and accurate at making these adjustments!

I haven't heard much from Jeff Mills lately. I wonder if he's gone digital yet.......
