Do egg boxes help soundproof a room? i've seen pictures and in movies as well, just wondering if anyone knew about this?
Thanks in advance,

Yeah it works to sound-proof.
Just use corkboard. |

Corkboard doesnt work nearly half as well as eggboxes.
Eggboxes help suck in the sound because of their material (sound doesnt bounce off carboard as well, a lot of the it is absorbed) and because of their shape (surface area).
Corkboard only had the material factor in its favor. |

SOund proof or sound optimize?
You could just place eggcarton or bumpy cheap mattress foam in the necessary areas to optimize your room- or do the whole thing for proofing. |

the best way for cheap!
egg crates you can get for free at a local diner - they usually stack them when they recycle, just grab the stack. egg crates in whole sale give you a nice square surface rather than buying a ton of eggs at your local supermarket and using the "dozen" size crates.
here in nyc it's easy to find - just go ask your local diner and tell them you'll give them some money for a bunch of them...if not camp out back and wait for them to throw out their recycle and just load up your car LOL |
