Sound cards

I'm thinking a sound card upgrade from the SB live may be in order. Any opinions on what would be good to get? I use all software, so I don't need more than one input/output. I'm just looking for a solid PCI card with a low latency.
Any opinions? |

What do you mean? It has the same connections as Audiophile, my suggestion had nothing to do with hardware. 1212M has a better DAC than Audiophile + it comes with a DSP that allows 16 simultaneous FX plugins without any CPU load. It would be my choice for a software setup. |

It actually has more connections than the audiophile, so I see where he's coming from. However, there are other things about the 1212m that I really like...mostly, as you say, the hardware VST effects, as well as the signal to noise ratio/converter quality. Plus, the balanced inputs will be better for recording dj sets.
Definitely gonna go with the 1212m. I appreciate the help, thanks guys. |

| RME makes really nice pci cards but are significantly more expensive then the previously suggested options. good luck! |

| I have a 1212M and can vouch for it. Very good sound. It has had a couple of driver issues where I've had to re-install them but nothing serious. |

| I got the Audiophile 2496 and it works great. Its on the cheaper end of cards at around 95-100 bucks. |

sigh... i wanted a nice simple maudio 2496 for my new powermac but now i have to wait until AFFORDABLE pci-express cards come out..... its gonna be fw or usb for now
in technology....meh |

heh... yea. my friend got a uad-1 for his g5 but completely forgot it only supported pci-e. it sucks when not all aspects of hardware have updated yet. |
