Does anyone knoe how to change the samplerate on MP3's or wav files? It would be greatly appreciated! :D
TranceGeek
well you can't really, unless you get someone to record it from vinyl at another rate...

You can change the sample rate. What you need is software. The software is expensive but free via limewire or something similar. What you want is Cool Edit Pro. I have it and it will do the trick.

Good luck.
TranceGeek
yea, you can change it, but the quality stays the same! so theres no point in doin it really

How can you record on Cool edit Pro without the sound being recorded from my microphone?
Because i have looked at all the demo options and it seems like it can only record through the microphone
dsbvinyl
if you can record from a microphone, why can't you just run rca cables into the microphone input?

Because not everything enters at a mic level.
To put it easy there are 3 big signal levels. But when entering into a mixer or soundcard, we'll always try to convert/amplify to a line level.

Line level : for example that's what's coming out of a cdplayer or a mixer. Those outputs are suited for going into Line inputs, without any specific amplification.

Mic level : like the name says, that's the signal that comes out of a microphone. This signal is much weaker than a regular line level, so it must be amplified. A microphone preamp is used for that. That's why you'll connect a microphone to the mic input of your mixer/soundcard/whatever. This mic input already contains a preamp internally. You would get the same result when you connect the microphone to a mic preamp, and that mic preamp to a regular line input.

Phono level : the output signal of a regular turntable. This signal also need amplification but also a specific kind of correction, called RIAA correction/amplification. Phono/RIAA preamps are used for this. That's why you connect your TT to the phono inputs of your mixer, they have that preamp internally. Most soundcards don't have such a phono input so you'll either have to connect your TT to your mixer, and connect the output of your mixer to your soundcard line in, or connect a phono preamp between your TT and your soundcard line in.

Of course this explanation is not completely right and complete, but it's enough to make you understand the differences.

As for your problem Darchinova, check which device is enabled for recording in your sound setup. You see that little speaker in your system tray? Double click on it. Go options => properties, select recording and press ok. Now look if that little checkbox under Line (assuming it's that input you wanna record from) is checked. The checked input is the one you'll record in your prog (cool edit, soundforge whatever).
So basically checking the line input in the record properties would do the trick.

Also Cool edit has an option somewhere to display a monitoring VU meter while recording. This is very handy (I'd even say necessary) to set your recording levels. When recording digitally, you should try to get your loudest parts as close to 0dB as possible, WITHOUT actually reaching that 0dB (as in digital domain everything over 0dB is clipped, and sounds awful).
So the method to set your level right in Cool edit (last time I used that prog was the 96 version so I don't know if the newest version has internal mixer) is to put your music at the loudest part you'll play and then tweak the INPUT slider in the recording properties (there where you checked if recording on that input was enabled) until you are satisfied => as close to 0dB as possible without actually reaching it.

I know I know it's a lot of explanation, but I hope it made things clear.
