The final entry in the adult-oriented anime trilogy by Osamu Tezuka and Mushi Production, following “A Thousand & One Nights” and “Cleopatra” . Loosely based on French historian Jules Michelet's nineteenth century classic novel "La Sorcière"
, this avant-garde art film describes a story of a woman named Jeanne, who sold her body and soul to the devil for her beloved husband, Jean. Painstakingly animating the stylistic illustrations, the story line continuously shows sadistic , psychedelic, and druggy scenes, with intense eroticism and sad lyricism. A wealth of imaginative visuals from Ukiyo-e to 60s underground comics and manga and acomplished technique push this film as one of the best animation film made in Japan. Directed by Eiichi Yamamoto. The art by Kuni Fukai. The animation director is Gisaburo Sugii . (89 Min)
