NYC bakery

Hey Guys,
Since im still fairly new to NYC im still tyring to find a few things that i miss from home.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good bakery? I just cant find a really good fresh loaf of bread that isnt full of sugar!

LOL here we go...I can tell you this...a BAKERY in nyc isn't just a bread bakery, bakery's in nyc usually have it all including pasteries and cakes and many other "baked goods"
for the sweet tooth and starters...

Junior's Cheesecakes
Grand Central Station (one in brooklyn as well)
Those are my top 2 pastery, cheese cake, dessert spots
Bread....
There should be a ton of local mom-n-pop shops you need to search for them...you can try

W9th and 6th Ave
W75th and Broadway =)
Al Pain (or el pain i forget)

Yeah, Veniero's is very good for pastries and desserts. Good fruit tarts, italian cheesecake and other cakes.
Though I've never gotten from them myself, I would also suspect that the Farmer's Market in Union Square would have good bread as well. They're open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8 am - 6 pm.
They also have good jams and jellies to go with the bread. |

| Balthazar's @ 80 Spring St. has an awesome variety of fresh breads and pastries for ppl with a sweet tooth and for the health nuts |

Panera - Its a chain so there are tons of em around, not sure where u live though.

Thanks everyone... had a quick look at a few places. the best place i found that has plain bread is the bread factory... all im after is some soft plain fresh un-sugard bread to put my vegimite on :-)

As for italian bread... the bakery by me, Melone's, is ill. But... on Staten Island. |
