A very good point. There seems to be 2 huge groups growing amongst the gamers: One who finds that graphics are less than important. It's all about gameplay, storyline, sound and controls to them. The other half of the spectrum seems to belong to the younger generation of gamers who instantly declare that the better the graphics, the better the system, the better the game. I think graphics are integral in next generation consoles HOWEVER I also find that I end up spending more time playing retro titles than newly released ones. The war wages on...
Many people are arguing, nowadays, that Nintendo is slowly killing themselves and that they truly don't know what they're doing. After attending the Nintendo Keynote last week at the GDC, I can safely say that they are the most-sure-of-themselves of the Big Three. The industry shouldn't be saying bye bye to Nintendo yet. ;) |
To be honest... I look for both gameplay and graphics. Although, I'm the type of gamer that will find a game that suits me best and play it for a good 6 months straight without really bouncing to another title. With today's hardware available, if a company puts full effort into a game they should be able to accomplish both, imo. I find many companies are satisfied with 1/2 of what COULD be done. However, I do also understand that many smaller companies simply don't have the budget for this and are forced to choose between graphics and gameplay. I'm very picky with my games these days and quite critical of what "could" have been done with it given the current power of the console/pc :)
I did read over some of your notes on a couple of the seminars. Pretty interesting stuff! I especially like to see where developers think the industry is heading... |

i gave in and ordered it. also bought a load of games. i went to gamespot and bougbht all the games with the top reviews.
RE4,metroid prime 1 and 2, pikmin2, viewtiful joe, tales of symphonia, prince of persia warrior within, super mario bros, wind waker
i need more multiplayer games though, i'm thinking mario tennis and super smash any other suggestions?
oh and the dreamcast i bought has digital output so i can hook it up to an HD TV and get 480p output on most games. i might buy a component to vga adaptor (about 50 bucks) to be able to plug it straight into my LCD monitor since i have no hd tv at school. |

Id highly recommend anyone to buy a second hand one at this point in time. You can pick one up on ebay for next to nothing (£25 in the uk) and games are between £5-£20 which again is all. I have been building up a really nice collection for my gamecube for a while now and its now a fantastic little package.
I now have :
Pearl White Gamecube
4xControllers (Pearl White, Black, Spice Orange, and the rather rare Emerald Green)
24x Games
Animal Crossing
Burnout 2
Donkey Konga (+ Bongos)
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
F-Zero GX
Mario Golf Toadstool Tour
Mario Kart : Double Dash
Mario Party 4
Metroid Prime
NBA Street V3
Paper Mario : The Thousand Year Door
Pikmin 2
Resident Evil 4
Soul Calibur 2
SSX On Tour
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Monkeyball
Super Monkeyball 2
Super Smash Bros Melee
Star Wars Rouge Leader
The Legend Of Zelda : Wind Waker
Timesplitters 2
Tony Hawks Underground 2
Viewtiful Joe
Between all that lot its pretty much all the best games for the system bar about 5 which im still chasing. But thats just as much high quality entertainment as any other console can offer. |

According to reports, the older the generation, the cheaper it'll be. I'm guessing NES titles will go from $2.99 to $4.99. SNES, SEGA and TurboGrafx games would be $4.99 to $14.99 (unless otherwise dictated by NEC/Sega). I'm guessing the pricier tags will go to the more popular games (FFIII, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, etc..). N64 titles would be $9.99 to $19.99.
All guesstimates, of course. ;) |
