yeah, seriously...:(
I'll be stuck in my lab, which has no windows, trying to get some research done for my PhD.
My big thing for the summer: One week in Maine over the 4th of July...
Other than that, some racing, some autox-ing, hitting a few shows... nothing too spectacular |

Yeah, definately a few trust fund babies on the boards. I guess everyone else really does have good jobs, or else great saving skills.

I just finished up all my college Japanese coursework last semester. I had a really stiff Ivy League professor though so half the Jap I know is business trip type stuff rather than conversational stuff. I never quite understood why they wouldn't teach us how to say "Help me please, I'm in mortal peril!" I would think phrases like that would be important when travelling. I'm still nervous about going over there myself but I'm setting up a trip w/some friends for Xmas / New Years time. |

+1, i'm hoping to save up and take a year off from work in 2008/2009 and buy an around the world ticket.
but this summer is mostly work with a vacation or two to destinations currently unknown, and learning how to ride my new kawasaki ninja. i get a ridiculous amount of vacation time so its money and not time thats my limiting factor.
also saving up for my year end 2 week trip to australia :D actually i'm looking to try and get a job there temporarily through my company but theres a lot of if's with that. |

it makes me mad when people think that b/c people go away often that they are receiving money from parents etc.
some of us had scholarships to go study in other countries or went to go study abroad in other countries and took out student loans. same student loans that you take out to use at a school in the US, you can also use to study at a foreign school. there are many different ways to go abroad without having 'serious trust funds', like going abroad and getting a job. dont just dismiss it as being rich . |

Mmm. Point taken, point taken. I hadn't considered that. Doesn't completely rule out the prospect of well off TA's though. I'm sure there's a nice bell curve of a few people here that travel on their parents money (which i don't really see too much of a problem with), a few who are dead broke but find some means to travel, and the bulk of people who are probably middle of the road work hard and save up all year to travel. I had been speculating the question of "Are all TA's loaded??" for a while though. I guess I can lay my stereotype to rest now heh. ... Scholarship to Ibiza anyone? :wtf: |
