what kind of template? how many channels are you going to run? what plugins?

good luck with it, its a huge learning curve but worth it once you pass it. :)

been thinking about purchasing this...

templates? not sure yet... have to play with it and see what I'm comfortable with.

nah man don't use a keyboard.. get a behringer bcr or bcf 2000.... awesome controller.. i'm using the bcr for my ableton stuff... works wonders. plenty of knobs to fiddle with. or just start out with an x-session.

you should also check out and see the Novation ReMOTE SL 25, expensive but you can map s/w controls to the front panel. they also have the automap for ableton. you have the mixer faders too and also nice lcd screen. here is a pic ->

yes, the learning curve killed me on ableton :whip: i got bored with it and gave up! can anybody help me out with a simple explaination here, sorry its kinda OT but here it goes...

when using ableton you have to load track samples, right? so my question is when people like sasha use it, and he is mixing in released tracks, lets say for example "Coburn vs Dumb Blonde - Sugar Lips" which i heard him drop a chopped up remix of, he has to have samples of the individual parts of the song, right? for instance, he has to have the melody line, vocal, and bass samples all seperate, correct? does this mean you have to get the individual parts of a released track to use it in ableton (which, to joe DJ over here would be practically impossible)

so this would mean for the average DJ who wants to use ableton they are pretty much left to use ableton with their original productions and sample libraries?

since my productions aren't up to par quite yet i like to use released tracks when mixing digitally... i moved onto other programs which allow me to mix using the laptop and a simple (m-audio O2) controller.

am i getting the correct impression of ableton? maybe i have to go back and learn it better!

anyways, cheers seneca, looking forward to your mix which is done incorporating ableton!

jam.iii you should check out the production/dj posts for this. here a link for ableton new users http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...ghlight=ableton

as for your question, when a dj legally remixes a track he gets the original samples which includes vocals, bassline, drums..etc etc from the record label, which sends a copy of the master copy. and then the rest is upto him to either enhance or kill the song.

Sasha sports an entire team of audio editors in UK whose job it is to chop up every track into those pieces since he can't do it himself in the amount of time he has.

The samples then get uploaded to a central server, which he regularly logs into as he travels from continent to continent to download the newest chopped up samples.

thanks suneel and aqua! that's all i needed to know... its virtually impossible as the average guy/gal to use ableton with released tracks then unless you have a LOT of time  off to find an appropriate post to direct all my noobish ?'s!

so, how's about the mix seneca? :)

Your solution for DJM on ableton live as far as controllers go - this setup works for me PERFECTLY

DJM-800 (fader, effects, EQs)+ Faderfox LX(effects triggering, track triggering and etc.)

hope that helps. :)
