From personal experience if you're used to PC's then stick with one.
At a push you could always use OSX86 on your laptop aswell and have the best of both worlds. |

If you're getting it for music, I'd personally get the mac. The build quality is far better than acer and you have the benefit of being able to run both MacOS and Windows XP on the Mac.
If you think you're going to play games too, get the acer, as at this time the mac video drivers under XP are non-existant (Well, unaccelerated), which for audio isn't that big of an issue.
If you go with the mac GET APPLECARE!!! On the laptops it is totally worth it..
Which ever choice you make they are both good machines, but with Apple moving to the inel platorm the lines between the two are becoming increasingly blurred. |

It is just for music that i'm getting it, mainly for recording sets and also for producing which i'm just getting into. My current laptop wasn't up to much when it came to production. I have been thinking on the acer just because its cheaper (not by much) but the apple spec isn't that different but i always think that i will be far more powerful |

Considering that OSX is now running on Intel Core Duo, it is only a matter of time before Mr. Jobs will ofer OSX as an alternative to Windows.
In my humble opinion, get an Ibm Thinkpad with Core Duo (can be purchased for somewhat cheaper than Mac)... and in Titanium finish - you'd be happy you did.
I love my thinkpad more than any musical instrument in my studio... well, probably only surpassed by my love for Jupiter 8 - but still, damn close.
Apple hardware is nice looking but somewhat fragile in comparisson to IBM Thinkpads. I had my thinkpad dropped from desk onto the floor and it survived without any problems. Meanwhile, I doubt your mac will. They're light, have a great battery life and you can even get one now with 2.2 Core Duo CPU, built-in verizon wireless, 256MB Ati video, 15 inch screen with 1600x1200 resolution, DVD +/- RW, video, 2GB 633Mhz RAM for under $2800.... That's my dream box...
Oh, keep in mind that PC platform has many more software options available to it than mac. Properly configured XP box with appropriate drivers, etc will be stable as a rock. My system never crashed, even under shoddy conditions or programs.
In today's world stability is no longer as much of a factor as it used to be. Don't worry... Logic will soon be ported over to Intel and expect it to be available for Windows users again soon... I am willing to bet that you'll probably see it within next year or two.
Meanwhile, Cubase SX is currently if not better, at least as good as Logic... and new Logic has gotten tons of complaints about varioius issues, missing features, etc. So, come to the dark side, Luke!

Oh, and P.S...
If you are buying Mac for the privilege of using Logic - I'd urge you to think about it long... and very hard. Do some research and realize that not only Logic is more expensive than Cubase or any other DAW (aside from full-blown ProTools) app but it also is the most outdated now. It almost looks that all development stopped after Apple aquired it from Emagic.
So... I'd think twice before buying a stylish brick called Mac. |
