Making Harmony between 2 Synth Sounds and melodies

I've been trying to make trance for like 5 years (since old Rebirth;) ) ,i'm able of reaching good Melodies\sounds for the lead Synth but i always get kinda blocked when i try to make a matching "suppurting" melody that will go with it in Harmony, even if the sounds go together the lead synth and the "supporting synth" will always sound like they are 2 strangers :sadgreen:

Can you guys give me any tips\help guides for my problem??

Thanx in advance:)
Chronosis
Put the lead playing a loop, select the other sound and hit notes until it sounds good.

I have two words for you...music theory. Learn some music theory (chords, scales, etc) and you'll realize what notes harmonize well with what key your lead is playing in.

I was afraid someone might say it:)
I don't wanna insult any EDM producers but i doubt they all learnt music theory in their past...i suspect they have some secrets up their sleeve...:D

Why did you afraid?
It's very interesting and important for productions.

Find out the chord progression, write a simple arpeggio for the notes of each measure.

if u made a nice melody it would probably lie on some spesific chords. take out those cords as strings just to know what notes u could play on, then try make a new melody based on those chord notes, but try avoid the notes u used in the first melody. maybe try aboid using the same rhytm section for it too. then maybe remove the strings and try play both melodys at same time. maybe it works maybe it wont but from here it will probably just be a few notes that doesnt match, then try change them to some "filler"notes LOL, i dont know the term on it but i call for instance if u got a c-minor chord then the second note will lie on the second black key on the piano. then if u take it one note down(to the D note) i call that a "filler" hehe, dont kknow what its called in the term but it will always work in a melody playing a C-minor chord, u can always use the D note. and also the black key left for C will also often work(-2 from C, dont know what note that is, im stupid with notes). hope that could help some.

Nice post, ill try what you've said later
