I think its ridiculous to pull a G&D and play only your own productions (or your friends) in a set. I believe in variety and sets moving through different music. I think DJ's should take you on a journey through a wide variety of tracks, not slam you with the same for hours (no matter how good the tracks are). I like alot of those tracks on their own but an entire CD of only that, I would never listen to.
I also believe a good set should build, and playing aftermath two tracks in just shatters any hope of that. Aftermath sounds best when you make people wait for it, when you drop it at an unexpected moment, when you build up to it.
I mean thats just my opinion. |

I guess I can see what you're saying about being heavy on their own production. The thing is that I don't always want to be taken on a journey, sometimes I just want energetic party music, and that's the role that this CD plays in my rotation. Also, I haven't listened to it in a few weeks and sometimes when I do, it's on my iPod so there's the pause between tracks, but if I recall correctly, the mixing is pretty decent on this.
If you look at just the tracks, there's quite a few great tracks, so that makes it worthwhile to me. I don't always want the same thing from music. Sometimes I want a journey, sometimes I want singles that don't even relate to each other, but sound great alone, and sometimes I want an artist album. It all depends on the mood I'm in.
That's the reason that I like this CD. I don't think it's deep. It's not epic. But it is fun and energetic.
Oh, and Aftermath isn't really something that I need to wait for, because as I've said before, it's really not that special of a track to me anyhow. |

I think its not that special because of exactly that...people playing it whenever.
Trust, when digweed brings it in at 5am at Fabric, it is the most insane ever. When Sasha dropped it at 4:30am at ICE we went nuts... |

Actually, I didn't think it was that special in Digweed's Global Gathering set from last year, which was one of the first times I heard it and remembered it's name from the tracklist. That set's one of my favorites of last year, but because of everything before Aftermath.
There's lots of other tracks that Sasha & Digweed play that make me go more nuts. Hopefully they play some of them tomorrow night. :p :D
I am really pissed about having to skip Sven Vath to see them, though. |

Big Steve Angello fan here. The Mixmag Ibiza album is definitely worth checking out, but also be sure to give his Tribal Mix Vol. 2 set a listen.
He's recently become one of my favorite producers. I have a lot of his remixes & original tracks, so feel free to PM me if you have questions about anything. :)

But they don't play that late, even in New York where parties go pretty late in US terms. I mean, can you Steve playing an afterhours party?? He's a peak-time DJ (like 1-4, 5 in New York. If you're only playing 3-4 hour sets at peak time, it's less necessary to mix it up.
Also, I was talking about the 1 hour CD, not a long set. I don't think his longer sets are quite as self-production heavy. |

All the "greats" can play any set. Check Danny Howells, LOLer, Sasha, Diggers, etc. |

That still doesn't mean the CD isn't enjoyable. I've seen everyone you listed (Lawler once, Howells - 3x, Digweed - 3x, Sasha - 10?), but I'm not comparing them to Angello. There's a reason I have CDs and go out to see all of them and it's because they're all different.
I'm not disagreeing and saying that Steve will be an industry legend in 10 years, but even if he's not, that still doesn't mean that he's not enjoyable now. |
