Empty My Cache?
View this Thread in Original format

Hello,

I've just got an e-mail from someone who asked me to 'empty my cache'. What does this mean and how do I do it? Please help an ignorant soul.

Thank you.

Pages you visit are stored in this cache for faster viweing later on when you return to a given page.

To clean it, go to Tools > Browser > Empty Cache. That's if you're using Firefox. If using Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > Delete Files... (this option is between "Delete cookies..." and "Settings...") in the middle of the window.

Now, if emptying your cache is slang for something else, with a sexual tone perhaps, then I don't know the answer.

Are there any set-backs to deleting cookies/temporary files, should this be done on a regular basis. ? Cheers,(hopefuly) !

You won't be able to view the pages you visit on a regular basis as fast, but only the first time around. After cleaning up the cache the files will once again go into the temporary internet files when you visit any given site. Nothing wrong with that, specially if you're on a fast connection.

But why have a bunch of files for sites that you most probably won't visit again? Cleaning the Internet cache is good every once in a while. It can free a lot of space, depending on how much space the Temporary Internet files folder has.

Also, there might be some unwanted files on your cache so it is good to clean it. As the size of the folder grows, the computer will start slowing down, this again taking into account how much space you have assigned to the folder.

Cleaning your Internet cache will only make your computer work more efficiently.

In Internet Options, go to the Advanced tab. Put a check mark beside "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed".
