Trance Sliced Effect?
View this Thread in Original format

Hey,
I am messing with some vocals, and I wanna get that *Believe* from Cher vocal effect, like a phased slice or sort of, any ideas how to obtain this sound?
Thanks in advance ;).
Kopi =o.

Most of people do it with autotune, but in the Cher track it was much more complex (as I recall someone posting the producer's technique here).

If you want my personal opinion, though (and I'm sure you don't ;)) I say don't do it. it's the most awful and overused effect in modern music.

Autotune is the main tool but there is also Celemony Melodyne... Its a bit more complicated but you can pretty much acheive that effect with it. :)

the vocal effect used in the cher track is more or less extreme autotuning

If you have a good vocalist. Just... use a good vocalist.

Auto-Tune effects sound cool when used subtly, but not in an extereme amount.

Why not let her voice sound normal and pretty through the entire track, then during say a really cool build/breakdown THEN tweak her voice out for effect.

Just an opinion though.

Stop it, stop it now.

It was bad enough as a gimmick for Cher, the fact everyone has copied it demonstrating a spectacular lack of creativity, whilst simultaneously annoying the crap out of every one.

If you use that effect and post a track with it up here i might be forced to hook up something cute and fluffy to a high voltage powersource and throw the swtich. AND IT WILL BE YOUR FAULT..

It's a vocoder and some badass filtering, not auto-tune. They used a Korg VC10 apparently.

vocoders dont do much at all, you wanna use Melodyne

They're totally different animals. And vocoders do an awful lot, and can be made to do some really cool things if you think laterally.

That sound is about as desireable as having your balls ripped off by chuck norris.

I always just thought it was Cher's voice that sucked. lol
Seriously tho, don't do it. It sounds awful
