See, the problem is that people pigeonhole themselves into only liking one certain style/sound and as a result, there are only like 15 weekends out of 52 weekends where you're satisfied. The other times, you feel the need to pull a colibri and hibernate because a trance DJ isn't playing that weekend.
Don't get me wrong, I liked Ferry the couple of times I went. I usually see Armin and have seen PvD every time he's been here since I started going out. But for me, it's just another weekend of fun parties and good music, not some special event that I wait months for and skip everything that's not identical
Seriously, don't some of you get bored listening to the same songs over and over again at every party, especially since the trance jocks have had pretty similar track selections lately? I can predict at least 1/3-1/2 of the tracks that'll be played before the set even starts. A good example was PvD @ Roseland. Ferry's even worse for being predictable, since he uses so many of his own productions.
Howells isn't the same as Ferry, it's something different. That's the point. I realize that not everyone is into his sound, but if not, there's Morillo @ Pacha or Burridge @ Cielo (though if you don't like Danny, chances are you probably won't like Lee, either). There's a lot of music/club events in this city, you just have to be more willing to look for them and experiment. |

| im out basically every week, sometimes twice, seeing other DJs, and dont get me wrong, i LOVE Howells.... but when you want an LEF Party, you want an LEF Party... you want the atmosphere Ferry creates and as a matter of fact, Ferry is very unpredictable.... who expected him to bring "orange theme" and "madagascar" back at his January night? he played like a 5 hour-ish set that night, dont tell me you knew 1/3 of the songs he would play, dont mean to attack you but it seemed like ever LEF Party was different.... the one i missed in February, my friends said he was bad.... his March and January ones were the best and they were so different.... im sure when some of you get that sudden feeling to see James Zabiela or Sasha or whoever, there is no other party or music or DJ that can just "quench" that feeling, you kno? |

I went to the first 3 and his july show. The tracklists were pretty standard, which was part of the motivation to skip the last 3 (well, that and Quivver @ Love in February and Sasha @ Cielo in March).
You commented on the January and March ones, but did you go to the ones I saw?

You do realize that Danny plays marathon sets, right? If he played really hard all night, you'd die after 12 hours |

this is the point i was raised in a city were
people dance thetire nighto tropical music
all night long here people are satisfied if a dj
plays 30 mins of something danceablex: sasha
way too predictalblexperimental and sleepy i saw
howells last year at spirit andisappointed me greatly
didn't have the stamina that characterized his sets
at arc where he gradually and consistently (50% of
the time) crafted a danceable progression every time
i saw him i would be in a couch having a drink waiting
for the likely turnaround and terrific musical ambiance
imo his last set at arc was exceptional i happen to enjoy
trance much more just bec of themotional aspect and
energy that can be merged however to give you another
example of such rare aberrations was digweed at centro
fly that brit was literalily frozen having tea playing tracks
suitable for a restaurant or exhibition abouthe industrial
revolution however i recall that suddenly towards the last
third the music was enjoyable intriguing and even powerful
but of course it lasted 30 mins most progressive dj's are
a very passive bunch lacking energy denoting a great deal
of time to a perpetual lack of musical movement and flow
anyway i plan to be there hoping howells will imagine
being at hubert in tribeca where by the way i saw him
everytime he resided there since i was comped every
time any dj of any genre should come and reflect
on howells' creative sets and perhaps even
dance too |
