formating a lap top

Hi guys
I want to format a lap top for my aunt, but she doesn't have any cds that came with the laptop (drivers and such). I only have Xp pro.
is it a good idea to format, or I must have the drivers and other cds?

| I think it depends on the manufacturer. Like for Dell laptops getting all drivers is very easy from their site. |

if you have another compter with internet access you can install xp first then see which drivers you need. the main drivers are:
- sound
- network
- video
- usb
- cd/dvd |

^ but how can I move the stuff between the two if non of those you mentioned are recognized? floppies?
the lap top is HP if it matters |

Well, you can install windows with network-support. It supports most network adapters. That way you could transfer via Lan.
HP seem to provide all drivers on their web page |

floppies will always work and cd will usually work |

| I think getting the product info from under the laptop should be sufficient to get the drivers from the HP support site. There should be stickers with the product info under the laptop (product id, number etc.). |

| you should really have no problems. Unless you have some emachines from '95 you should have no problem with finding drivers |
