Film studio defends 9/11 trailer
The studio behind 9/11 film United 93 is standing by the film's trailer, despite audience complaints.
The film focuses on the fourth hijacked plane which passengers attempted to retake from hijackers before it crashed in Pennsylvania on 11 September 2001.
"We expect that some moviegoers will have a strong response to its images and narrative," Universal Studios said in a statement.
A New York cinema has pulled the film's trailer after it upset viewers.
The trailer, which is being shown on about 3,000 screens across the US, contains documentary footage of the two planes hitting the World Trade Center twin towers in New York on 11 September 2001.
The AMC Loews Lincoln Square 12 cinema in Manhattan decided not to show the trailer after customers complained they found it distressing.
"I don't think people are ready for this," said manager Kevin Adjodha.
The film, which will be launched at New York's Tribeca film festival next month, gives a real-time account of the plane's hijack until its crash 90 minutes later.
Universal Studios believes the realistic nature of the trailer is necessary "so that those who elect to see the film will be prepared for the experience".
Bereaved families
Director Paul Greengrass, whose films include The Bourne Supremacy and Bloody Sunday, worked closely with the bereaved families of victims of the United Airlines flight.
"We are very supportive of the film," said Tammie Rosen, publicist for the Tribeca film festival, where the film will debut on 25 April.
The film festival was set up by Robert De Niro to help revitalise Manhattan's economy in the wake of the terrorist attacks.
Families of the victims will see the film ahead of the premiere, while Universal Pictures has pledged to donate a proportion of the film's earnings to the Flight 93 National Memorial.

You are offensive. Such absurd comments are not appreciated, nor warranted.
The only thing you've done here is prove your ignorance and lack of tact.
Classy. |
try teaching tact elsewhere.
Please refrain from using the word ignorant unless you are capable of disproving that which is unknown.

tact ( P ) Pronunciation Key (tkt)
n.
Acute sensitivity to what is proper and appropriate in dealing with others, including the ability to speak or act without offending.
I'm not going to try to get in the middle of things here. But I think what RJ was trying to point out is that you made some pretty bold statements in what you posted earlier. You're trying to say that this movie is offensive and disrespecting the victims and their families of 9/11...well you're pretty much stooping to their level by criticizing American's in the way that you choose to.
The following I find pretty offensive and disrespectful:

They are american's, they do everything wrong, in a very big way.

I believe that American's don't tend to use the right way in dealing with situations a lot of the time...but I don't believe they do EVERYTHING wrong, in a VERY BIG way.

9/11 was the finest thing the US has created in years, they killed their own and now we wonder why they have no respect, in that they will make a film about that which they created in the first place.
|
This statement I also fine fairly offensive...completely blaming the American's for what happened. In what I posted earlier, I think that some of their actions could have brought it on themselves, but you can't completely blame them for everything that happened.

- - - -I wonder why I didnt recognize one actor in this film, 4 years of film study and I dont know one actor....maybe NONE of them would agree to be a part of this hollywood production of a national lie. |
This statement however, I completely agree with. I was thinking the exact same thing. |

The only place that tact needs to be taught is in your household. Based on your behavior and posts - one would conclude that it was left out of the curriculum. |

They already had a TV movie about 9/11. It aired I believe last fall or this winter. Oliver Stone is doing a movie about two firemen who were trapped in the rubble following the Twin Tower's collapse.
Anything that can be deemed newsworthy or historical eventually finds it way into mass media whether it be books, TV, movies, radio, etc. IT HAPPENNED. PEOPLE DIED HORRIFICALLY. No amount of ban from public media out of decency or tact is going to change that fact. I wish people would stop tiptoeing around the damn topic and either a.) start working on ways to better our country or b.) get on with their lives.
While I personally find the giant picture books that detail boby for body the disaster, I am looking forward to see what Oliver Stone does with his movie. It will be the first major Hollywood showing for 9/11 and he's a director of taste I would say.
This event defined and shaped the US more than any other event in my lifetime. I find it highly appropriate it gets the same treatment any other turning point in our history has gotten - the Civil War, the Gulf War, civil rights movement, etc. |

I sure hope someone can explain how when Flight 93 was hijacked at the altitude of 30,000 feet(40 minutes into the flight).
A few of the passengers where able to make several cellphone calls.
Which has been proven to be impossible.
Answer me that question and you get a cookie. |

Let me first say that I in no way condone what the terrorists did during 9/11. However, at the same time...is this movie going to show their point of view at all? No. Just like the typical "all-american, we are the greatest country in the world" persona, they're going to show how America is amazing and they are the ultimate victims in this case. |
this movie much like most of the american media surrounding 9/11 is for the ignorant and the same ignorance that feeds americans and non-americans who follow their leaders without question through media.
unfortunately the majority of the population will eat this up; and grief over their loss through a series of scenarios played over and over again on their TV's and movie theaters.
anyway, I will continue to 'LOL' at stuff like this. :) |

Wasn't it due to flying at altitudes far lower than normal? (and I'm just guessing here) |

the events of 9/11 are offensive to me, to an extent that you DO NOT understand. It was beyond the most surreal and awful thing my eyes have seen, know that.
The fact that they are now making a film on this plane going down, is ironic if you subscribe, AS MANY PEOPLE DO, to fears that this "actual" event never happened.
Please refrain from commenting on the ciriculum of thought, taught at my household, in this regard you know nothing.
You never will.
The school of thought, and ciriculum that I subscribe to is one which is open to other possibilities, other explanantions. There are more than plenty "other" explanantions of the events of 9/11. If you are going to use the word ignorant, please at least know the other sides to this argument, and if you already do then atleast be willing to diologue on them....
and please refrain from making conclusions on my person, based on, as you say my "behaviour" and posts.... interesting while you claim to be able to label me as tactless, you are only showing yourself, to be one lacking couth.
not seeking an argument, only a diologue. |
