John Paullino Pres Transitional Memory
Hey guys its been a couple months since my last mix on here.This is one of my best recorded sets of 2006. Its epic and a little energetic. This mix has my all time favorite tracks of early 06 and late 05. The title is called Transitional Memory because it reminds me of the time when I use to come home and go right to the decks and mix for 30 minuites straight before starting a climatic set. I am very glad with the outcome of this set for example, mixing, structure, and quality. The mix is more like an expiremental melodic progression. I hope you will enjoy this mix, cheers. Any feedback is appreciated..

I thoroughly enjoyed this. A beautiful set it is.
Transitions are immaculate, timing is on point. Nearly flawless. Key matching is near exact. The mix changes in direction approximately 2/3 in and is done very well. Good job on keeping it interesting.

i got this a while ago when you sent me a link and was waiting for your thread to give you feedback :p. this is a very good mix but i was expecting something different, something closer to your previous mix. this was disappointing at first for me as i simply was expecting a harder and epic trance set as i liked the style of the Ibiza Sun. i really can't talk too much though as i've covered a variety of styles and while i do try to take into consideration what people may expect, i often disregard it. anyway, getting over this initial disappointment, the second time around i really did see where you were going with this. you were trying to focus on the build and progression while creating a more progressive set. you did a very good job of this, building and setting a more meaningful emphasis on each track. the style and tone of the tracks are nice and i see the theme you wanted.
the first 2 tracks are truly beautiful and good choices to kick off with a spirited and light theme. from then until Close Your Eyes you do a good job of building energy and story. after that I can see what you may have wanted to do; resolve the mix with a sort of chill 'after-hours' vibe, but personally i felt unsatisfied by this as the last four songs really lost me. it also has to do with my personal opinion of Serene and Like a Waterfall. i don't like Serene at all; it's structure, especially it's breakdown, for me, kill any sort of groove or energy that any set may have. it can be effective in the beginning, warm up sections of sets as filler, and as a some-what pleasant mood enhancer. but if you've built any sort of energy at all, for me that track is a sure-fire way to kill it. anyway, after that is Like a Waterfall which is another track that is iffy for me and didn't fit in my opinion. then two tracks that I do really like, but just didn't add to the set, especially as finishing tracks. personal opinion of course.
anyway, great job experimenting with more progressive tracks and creating a good story. i like your tracks selection for the most part, but your programming towards the end didn't do it for me. |

Thanks, its my first time stepping into Prog. This mix was experimental, It was also personal too. I'm still happy with it and play it in the car. Right now i'm working on the sequel to ibiza sun, and my true style is still with me.

i'm back after 3-4 listens to this mix. I played it when I was absorbed (working in the office) and it was a great background. I knew few tracks before, but these new to me was awesome. I'm in love with Revolver. Remote Kontrol and Moscow Morning are great too. All tracks are nicely selected, constantly giving the right feeling. Mixing is top notch, as I expected. I like you made your transitions very subtle, that works brilliantly to this music.
I didn't have a feeling that the mix lost any energy in the end, but I must admit that I unconsciously enjoyed the first half more. Maybe there is something in djmetatron's words, he's a wise man :D
Overall... heh... 9/10
btw. why did you delete the link in your sig? too much downloads forces you to upload the mix to yousendit day by day? :D |

Yeah i agree too, Metatron is right about the energy loss part. My sig was to big so i had to take it off. Yeah all my bandwidth was being used heh. Thanks for your review Mon-soon, looking forward to your 3rd mix, btw i still have to review your first mix :toocool: |

There are many things to expect when you hear the word progressive. One of them is brilliance and after listening to this mix over and over again I couldn’t find it. The first 3 tracks are excellent examples of progressive trance. In fact, I fell in love with the beginning of your set because of those very tunes and found myself playing it back many times. After that your set gradually strays away from the progressive sound into something too familiar nowadays and that is the ASOT sound for lack of a better analogy. There’s nothing wrong with ASOT, but it’s not something you associate with when spinning progressive trance. Armin plays tunes similar to those found in the second half of your set, which is not progressive. Overall I’d have to say to say track 2 is one of my favorite tracks out of your whole set because it reminds me Yahel – Voyage which I’m very fond of.
Technically you're skills are on point and not an area of concern. I wasn't too concerned with so much the build and flow of your set, but rather the direction you were taking it music-wise as detailed above. In conclusion, my only hope for you is that on your next progressive mix you maintain the same mindset for track selection that you did for the first half of the set instead of giving up halfway and playing regular trance. |

Yeah i agree on that also, next prog mix will be more like the first 3 transitions, including the tracks. |
