Dr. Cfire

is (3x2) 3x^2 or 6?

if 3x^2
(3x^2) (15x - 2xy + 2x -2) = 45x^3 - 6x^3y + 6x^3 -6x^2
45x^3 - 6x^3y + 6x^3 -6x^2 = 51x^3 - 6x^3y -6x^2

or 6
(6)(15x - 2xy + 2x -2) = 90x - 12xy +12x - 12
90x - 12xy +12x - 12 = 102x - 12xy - 12

himm thats odd cause my 4 years of engineering and MATLAB disagree.

>> syms ('x')
>> syms ('y')
>> (3*x^2)*(15*x - 2*x*y + 2*x -2)

ans =

3*x^2*(17*x-2*x*y-2)

>>

>> syms ('x')
>> syms ('y')
>> (3*2)*(15*x - 2*x*y + 2*x -2)

ans =

102*x-12*x*y-12

>>

I think he has misdefined the problem

Alright im going to assume you mean multiplication by a scalar. that would be the second version.

Note 1: (3x2) doesnt mean anything. Im going to assume that you meant 3*2.

ans =

102*x-12*x*y-12
