View this Thread in Original format

Here's the final version of the original of Birth.

Tried tighting things up and changed the bassline as it didn't work added a pad from the beginnning up until the break to give the tracka more uplifting feel.

Hope this version is better than the 'Deep Edit' I did a few weeks back!

Any comments are welcome!

cheers!

It starts off pretty funky. Cool :D

The song is pretty good but here are a few things I recommend that would make it sound much better:

1) The song is not loud enough over all. Especially the highs and lows. Adding more volume will definetly give it more life.
2) The kick should cut through the mix near the end synth stage (@ like 5:00ish)
3) EQing the kick to be louder and fatter would make the track sound more uplifting and a present and clear kick always drives a song through each stage :)

Anywayz man good job, keep it up

Thanks guys.

The kick will be fixed. the end of the track feeling empty ill through a few effect in there as i dont want it to sound crowed because there are three synths working together there. the front one is very over powering.

yo barry.

sorry i replied so late:)

i like this. kick sounds too comped for me. ease up imo. give the track a bit more warmth.

this version sounds better than the last version i listened to. more upfront sounds. you have quite a nice drive here.

the kick is the only real issue i have. your sound is quite original.

2;11 there is a note clash imo. doesnt sound quite right.

your kick being overcomped is really adversly affecting the track. check it on a spectrum analyser. you got loads of high bass but no low. the kick is very mid bass prominant on the windows media player analyser(orange one)..

also do a bit of mixing. turn up all the percs and synths a bit.

overall this sounds quite experimntal to me. a lot of varied sounds.

sorry if i sound harsh but i noticed a few easy to sort things here:)

keep it up mate:)

Cool track you got here m8 , but I feel the kick is "woody" but i dont know that might be my beyer phones (no deep base in them) how ever good comp on this and what i love is all the differences in the tune , happens new stuff all the time, but I feel it misses a catch =( Btw great break nice tweak on the strings i thought it was the tv that was on in the other end of the room =) keep it up - Mavve

thanks rich and mavve

yea the kick is a problem i should have left it the way i had it last time. going to sort that today. im listening back on the point of the note clash and i can hear it myself. have to sort that too.

cheers

Hey Kane, listened to your track...

I think as everyone has pointed out already, the kick needs a bit of work done to it. Maybe add some higher freqs to it, or layer it with a sample that is punchier.

The bassline seems to overpower the kick at points making it stand out too much, i would suggest increasing the kick volume but uve done that already :)

When the melody picks up, kinda reminds me a DJ Shog track. I do like it though. As im listening to it, the lead has too many low freqs in it which dont compliment the bass and kick too well.

Nice fx used though Kane in this track. Some more work required :)

Sorry if im being harsh :)

Good track though.

you can never be harsh mate. its all about trial and error. ;)

working on the kick at the minute. i think it definately sounds much better. ill upload a link later when i sort out the rest of the track.

rich the note clash is a problem i mixed it down and imported it as an audio file to save cpu. now i cant find the midi file. going to have to find another way around it.

cheers

nice loud tight master I notice.

The bass is good and sounds nice. The kick does need thickness, but we are all looking for that mystical kick ;)

The sound has a proper drifting feel, while the percussion drives. The melody is responsible for that and good.
I think the lead in at 2:19 is very good, but maybe have a filter or other heavy effect at the tip too, so that it clears up as it loudens in.
The vocal sample is great. Reminds me of old school mentality -- quite superb there.
Instead of drums at 3:59 I would maybe consider a swishy/techno-like percussion, it would sound less amateur.
Could you add a granular sound at 4:54, the starkness there makes the synth there sound a little cheesy. A slow bubbling soft granular pad would make it bittersweet intead.
Nice sense of completion at 6:30 this sounds well structured. It really makes a journey and a statement, which is the goal.
Good job.
