Hmmmm... I've never had Mongolian BBQ... I'll be watching this thread to see what comes up, I'll probably check it out as well.

there used to be a great one in Millburn, NJ. Haven't been there this year though. not sure if it still exists. Place was amazing though.

You gotta have the Genghis with some Kubla on the side... cant have one without the other or else youre missing out.

bump!

anyone?

Variety Cafe on 48th St. has a small Mongolian BBQ counter but a) it sucks, b) it's not a proper restaurant (more of those lunch time buffet places).

i hear so many great things about mongolian bbq, but what exactly is it? like what type of foods do you find there? what kind of dishes are best?

it's an open grill .. where you choose your ingredients; raw vegetables, uncooked meat / seafood, and sauces.

you make the choices and someone else cooks it for you.

I too have been to variety cafe and I agree that it sucks.

It usually consists of you picking from a self service counter to put in your own bowl:
-different types of meats
-different veggies
-spices sauces etc

Then you go to the place where the cooks are, they usually have a real big round cooking area where they throw the food on and they do lotsa noise and tricks with their giant chop sticks

( it looks like this )

There isn't anything in particular to recommend, but places usually have little recipe sheets and you can try them if you want.

It's more of a visual and entertaining thing then it is high end cuisine, but the food can be real delish and you usually end up eating too much as it's all you can eat in most of these places in the US. :stongue: :stongue:
