ok,
a website i'm in the process of developing - http://www.derry.com
the home page has a page rank of 1/10
the homepage links to a forum (3/10), a links page (3/10) and a photo page (2/10).
if page rank goes by links to yout site etc, how can the other pages have a higher rank than the homepage ??
any suggestions? |

| The algorhythm they use is rather complext, but from what you said, the difference is quite obvious: All other pages have more information than your homepage (which is just a splash screen). This is what matters, they're not going to take your hierarchy as a rule. |

It's not that simple.
There are several other factors that end up being important. Links that point to that specific page, for example, the syntax, and so on.
For example, how many times have you seen TA's splash screen during your life? How many times have you visited the forums?

The important thing to remember about Pagerank is that in order to be highly ranked for a certain topic you need to have in-bound links from other pages that have a high PR with similar topics.
This is why link farms (pages full of links) are notorious for low PR.
They're useless.
It is for this reason that there are sites out there where you can work out link exchanges with high PR sites and/or pay others to put a link to you on their high PR sites.
PR is important, when linking out to sites I usually include a rel="nofollow" in the anchor tag so that when the site is crawled the outgoing link is not incorporated into their PR or vice-versa. |

how do u know wot ur page rank is? i'd like to know!
best way to get ranked? content is king. provide a service for your readers so that they come back to again and again. a useful blog perhaps? i have alot of my pages archived on google, it's sweet! |

install google toolbar and you can see the page rank of the site you're viewing from there.

very good point, BUT, derry.com forums has about 112 posts :)
it aint taking off as quick as i'd hoped.
I think google page clicks (i.e. when u click on a link on google when u search for something) are monitored, looked at the code and found this:
onmousedown="return clk(this.href,'res','4','')"
cheers dudes! |
