Bah... I'm a geek, an audio enthusiast, a gamer, a trancer, and a dreamer... so this would be MY dream system:
Processor: Dual AMD Athlon XP 2 GHz
Ram: 3.5 GB DDR 266mhz RAM
Hard Drives: x4 300 GB SCSI 10,000 RPM Externals
DVD-RW: Pioneer DVD Burner 4X
DVD-ROM: Pioneer 16x slot (which I already own :D )
MonitorS: dual NEC Plasma Screens (very expensive) (because one is just not enough with an unlimited budget)... + an NEC Multisync 24" for backup
3COM 1000mbit NIC
Internet Connection: x2 T3
Sound Card 1 (for music / studio use): M-Audio Delta 1010
Sound Card 2 (for games): Soundblaster Audigy
Speaker set 1: Videologic Sirocco Pro's (2.1 system for monitoring)
Speaker set 2: Videologic Digitheatre DTS (5.1 for DVD & Games
Headphones 1 (for DJing): Sennheiser HD25s
Headphones 2 (for studio): Beyerdynamic DT831
Keyboard & Mouse: Logitech's wireless & optical combo
Also... since these 'can' and 'would' be hooked up if I had infinite $$$ for the dream machine... I will add in these:
x2 Technics 1210MKII Turntables
x2 Pioneer CDJ-1000s
x2 Roland DJ-2000 Mixer (so I could have a guest DJing at the same time :D ) |
WOW! That's a nice system! Better than any other one's on here! Who would like to add on to it? Add the best Linux OS as well as WinXP Pro. Corp. FINAL, completely voice activated keyboard/mouse. C'mon! Begin adding more and more! |

back in '95 my dream comp was a Pentium 133 MHz with 32MB of RAM, 2 GB hard drive, and a 28.8 modem. boy, how things have changed! nowadays i haven't really been keeping track but i'd have to say my dream comp would be similiar to ravdude's. |
There is a good few differences between me and being a geek...
-I get out way more than some geeks in my school
-I've got a hotter g/f than any geeks I know
-I only know alot about computers because if the era we live in.
-->no offense meant to any1, btw. |

Oh, wait, I just found out that the Digitheatre DTS doesn't do 5 channel gaming.
He should get the ANALOG version, the Digitheatre LC, and make sure that he gets the program "WinDVD", so he can watch DVD's in DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.
Also, since you would have the Sirocco Pro's for music and mixing, you wouldn't need a DVD/Game speaker for that purpose.... you could forgo music listening with, say.... the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 and a Promedia DD-5.1, cause you'll have a better music system anyway....
btw, the logitech keyboard and optical mouse combo is *THE SINGLE* best wireless combo... there isn't voice activated stuff out, I believe.
Also, why don't we make it marginally more interesting by staying out of the "Home Theater" sector... as, with that, you have basically infinite display options, and infinite sound options, and there is no real "best". With stuff that's made for computers, you DO have a "best".
Oh, and with headphones, as long as you don't start talking about Electrostatic ones, yea, there is mostly a "best" too...
In other words, *I* would use the 24" Widescreen Trinitron Sony FW900 CRT monitor ($2000), and I would use the Sirocco Pro's ($900) for monitoring, and the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 ($400) for games and DVD's...
and, of course.... *cradles his Beyerdynamic DT831's ($260) happily* my headphones for monitoring...
But, with those, you'll need a warm sounding amp... so....
I would use THIS one (cause it has two inputs; plug both sound cards in at once!)

And, of course, I'd need some DVD headphones, so I would use the Audio Technica ATH-W2002...

I'd have whacked DDR333 Ram inside myself and then overclocked the FSB up from 266 (266DDR) up to 340 or so and forced the Cas latency to 2 as well.
Stick in a Geforce 4 128mb DDR600 card on AGPx8 Bus (w00t) and OC that to 670 or so and see the thing smoke Q3 in 1600x1200x32 in 350FPS heh heh
I liked the choice of soundcards though LOL!! |

well if you guys what the ultimate internet connection then i would have to say that you should go with the OC-48 that little bastard gets 2.5 Gigabites a sec transfer rate, but the price tag on it is also quite high, it is only $472,000 a month, US. :) but you sill get 2.5 gig a sec.

| Well until I read this one, I was happy with my 1gig amd and 576'000kbps connections.... thanks a lot guys  I guess I'll go sell my parents or their car or something so I can upgrade, In fact the one I want to get which is just a single 2gig machine is only a grand and a half, so I not got too much selling to do :D |

Hmmm not a bad idea.
Next we should add a chair that you can use as a toilet... and hire a butler to prepare us food. Then we would never have to get up! |
