Ok so I am writing a sci-fi film...

...and I don't need any ideas but I want to give you a synopis of the movie and tell me if you would watch it or if you think you know what would be better.
synopis:The earth is going through a period of prosperity. The politicians are only thinking about making money and as well as the people. Most people believe they are living a great life, you know greed and adultery and like that.
The world experiances a wierd comet storm which destroys many people and their houses. It is at that moment when earth forces have come into contact from another species one from outside of earth.
The alien force comes to earth and destroys all resistence and steal all natural resources and the technology sending the humans back to stone age, literally. Then were planning to destroy all of humanity as well. However, the politicians work a deal out.
The alien force has this weapon that is capable of killing only the bad people so the alien force leaves the race incapicitated. Politicians believing that they are safe give the ok and once this weapon comes the politicians die and so do more than half the human population. The only survivors are the people who were considered weak or 'nerdy'.
So what do you guys believe? |

| I started writing a serious critique, but after going over your idea a few times I cant do it. A device that kills "bad" people. You must be joking. |

| I didn't know what else to call it. I wouldn't say it kills 'bad' people. Or anything I just thought thats an easy way to call something you can't name. The thing is that the alien force didn't say who they would keep alive or anything. What they did was use a weapon that left the planet left with 'weak' people because the alien race didn't want to leave anybody who would be a threat to their rule. So I had no other term to call it. |

| Ok, so Im guessing the aliens want to harvest earth for its resources (watch out for similarities to War of the Worlds). Why would they want people around at all? Why wouldnt they jsut kill all people. Also, who are your main characters? What is their/the films main conflict? What is the resolution? These questions I dont really see being answered in your plot description. |

The aliens don't want to harvest all of earths natural resources their main interests is the technology for gen eng and bio eng. This alien force has only attacked Humans because the alien race has not yet unlocked the keys to that type of eng. They first wanted to do it diplomatically but the gov said no. So this in return has turned into war. The human race can fight back and they do. Millions of people die on the human side and they are eventually defeated where they have to negotiate with the alien race.
Before teh Aliens leave they tell the female president that be4 they leave one last attack will occur except their will be no loses to teh alien side.
The attack happens and most of the Human civilization is destroyed and most of the people are killed along except for a few. The few who remain are left in a world with not technology and only the forest as their source for shelter and food.
Basically the story revolves around four charecters. The female president, a father and his child and the Alien leader and second in command for the alien race.

Let me guess they only talked to americans, those self important sons of bitches who woudnt share anything unless they can get a profit off it. But still quite a big plothole there, the aliens have mastered interstelar travel and have weapons that only target specific persons which means they can either modify their weapon to kill people who posses a specific gene or people with an "evil" thought patter. Rather advanced stuff but they still coudnt come up with some things that we came up with even though that we are on a seriously lower technological level than they.

the plothole moongoose mentioned is too big & the premise needs much more detail.
if they're close enough to make that journey to our planet in a matter of days/months/years, how have we not detected their existence?
if they're not close enough, it's quite implausible that they would have the necessary technology to travel for such long durations, and sustain the health of the representatives of their species and not have biological & genetic engineering.
and what the hell are they doing looking for technologies they have no clue about? even worse, what are they doing looking for them on our planet? we hardly make trips to the moon; how can they think of us as anything other than inferior? |

Unified one-earth government, or dictatorship, or current geo-political structure of today?

A comet storm, eh? Ok....
What are Earth forces like? Where do they come in contact with the aliens, is Mars inhabitated?

Why would they steal technology? What natrual resources are they after? Why are they going to the trouble of conquering earth, and how quickly does this process take?
They steal all technology means; they take everybodies laptop and computer? They torture scientist into giving them trade secrets? They hire interperters to convert earth's encyclopedia into Alien tounge? They say, "All your patents are belongs to us" or what exactly?
And how would they physically go about putting humanity back in the stone age? Erase people's memories? I can understand taking out all the powerplants or using an EMP, but people have generators...

What weapon? Why don't you go with a more plausible; "virus", one that kills off say only a specific race or only people with a specific gene trait.
Also, why do the Aliens bother negotiating with the humans? Why not just finish them off?

Wouldn't half the politicians die? Or are there really no honest politicians in your world? And why would the politicians agree to something that would kill them? What is their leverage in all this? Why are the aliens even willing to negotiate with them? And when they negotiate, how do they communicate?

So the aliens kill everybody, steal the nerds ideas, kill some more people, and leave the nerds to inhabit the earth... ok I think your on to something here:rolleyes:

| I think previous posts have given some helpful tips, but in Hollywood you never know. In many instances its not about talent, but connections. How else can you explain why so much garbage spews forth from Tinsel Town? What sane producer would highlight some of these films? |

| Its not that the producers have lost their sanity and all of a sudden have an affinity for poorly written movies, its just that often times those kinds of movies that we think of as stupid, think 40 First Dates, often provide these companies with predictible returns on their money. However, people often don't realize how hard it is to make a great movie , in addition to the fact that when great movies come along they are often do not recieve the hype that they deserve. Simply look at the top 10 grossing films of the past 5 years. In each year there is maybe one truly great film. |
