Your Ideal Political Party

If you could make up your own party how would you tackle current day issues, what would it stand for, and what would you name it, etc. I'll start:

Name of Party: Progressive Party

Ok so the name is taken, but I wouldn't mind going back to the glory days of the early 1900's when things were actually getting done.

What I would stand for?

  • Pro Constitution - This means say no the Patriot Act and of course all the mumbo jumbo that goes along with it like pro-civil rights, worker's rights, free speech, religious freedom and separation of church and state, and everything our current constitution stands for.
  • Pro-Strong Military and Defense - Support the people who defend our values with their life and limb. Develop military solutions in balance with the threats.
  • Pro-Civil Unions - Dignity, Respect and equal opportunity without judgment. As far as gay marriage is concerned the world is not going to stop reproducing because of gay marriage so let them marry freely.
  • Pro-Environment - For our health safety and enjoyment; our children’s health safety and enjoyment; and the rights of future generations!
  • Pro-Education - We support a strong Public School system and access to higher education.
  • Abortion - not pro life, not pro choice. I believe it is up to the woman to keep the baby or not. I would set limitations on how many months the woman is allowed to make that choice because eventually the cell is not a cell anymore but a grown fetus. After that period of time she has to have her baby unless it endangers her life.
  • Guns - against guns. If you look at a lot of countries in the Middle East it seems like anybody can have a gun around there. You see little kids with ak-47's strapped around their shoulder like it's just another day. Not that any of it exists here in the states, but with my modified progressive party guns will not be tolerated, only law enforcement and similar personnel are allowed to have guns. Exceptions can be made.
  • Religion & School - The separation between church and state is a something I would enforce. No more b.s. School is for acedemics therefore the theory of evolution (big bang theory, etc) has to be taught. If you're all about the divine creation of the earth then learn that on your own time and keep that away from the school side. Remember the taxpayer pays for education, not religious enlightenment and as always the American public has the freedom to learn both theories.
  • Limited Government - We only step in for the big stuff. The individuals cannot be expected to band together and build bridges, roads, banks, and so forth for their community so it is required of us to provide those pulbic needs.

How would I tackle current day issues?

  • Immigration - If the Chinese could build a 4000 miles Great wall with their bare hands and no technology I'm sure we have the resources to build a significantly shorter wall and close the U.S.-Mexican border. Sure the business community would be angry at us for taking away their cheap labor, but think of it this way: problem solved! As for the current 11-12 million current illegal immigrants I will not support an amnesty program. A program will be developed to encourage illegal aliens to go through the same immigration process that the legal immigrants went through with the promise that we won't deport them back to their. In that way they go through the same procedures that the legal immigrants and all is balanced between the two factions (i.e. legal vs illegal aliens).
  • Iraq War - I'm sad to say this, but we are in too deep now to quit. I say we build themseles a democratic government
  • Foreign Diplomacy - The progressive party would stand for improved foreign relations throughout the world. Our party will vow to never again invade a country unprovoked unless they ask us for help or are truly a threat to our national security and/or world peace is at stake.
  • Economics - Continue, improve, and refine the same economic stradegies used in the Clinton administration. Whatever policies he used which caused the economy to soar than any other president I would be more than happy to reverse engineer those same tactics and apply them to our advantage. Also no major tax cuts or tax hikes will be used unless necessary to the economy's well being, not the people's opinion. The USA is not made up of economists therefore we should not let them decide the U.S.'s finances. Our party will not try to appeal to the public by passing giant tax cuts just to gain popularity or higher ratings, but rather looks at the money.

There's more I'd like to add, but doesn't come to mind yet. Our main agenda is to bring back some of the glory days of the 1900's with a modern progressive twist. Enough talk, now let's walk. Who's with me!!!

Our party would ban illegal drugs altogether and only allow doctors special access to those drugs to be used for medicinal purposes only. I'm sure you know the drugs I'm referring to such as marijuana, ecstasy, heroin, cocaine, meth, etc.

Something to take note of was this documentary I was watching provided by a fellow PDD'er stating that the U.S. is partially dependent on the drug trade in the economics sense. Basically the conclusion of that documentary was that without drugs, the U.S. would go bankrupt. I know it sounds unbelievable but assuming it is true I would slowly cut the flow of drugs between the U.S. and Mexico, Colombia, and parts of the Middle East that we have the problems with. Rather than go the 'cold turkey' route, somehow our party would find ways to slowly shift the dirty money flow and redirect it towards something more positive like social security and medicare.
