It's so cute.
But soon it will be ravaged. By potentiameters and buttons and wires.
Oh you will be broken my sweet little speak and spell.
Ok. So a more serious note. Who knows/has done anything in regards to "breaking" toys. I won't break this one right off the bat. I'll be getting in some practice with...
My little buddy alphapet:

This bitchen Wiggles guitar:

And this lovely piece of Vtech technology:

I don't want to waste a good speak and spell, so it will be the coups de grce after i'm done molesting the other toys. So got any pointers? I'll gladly host a few samples when I'm done abusing these machines.

[EDIT]Um... dare I ask anything? One of us is stoned out of the wall, and I usually check my drinks before I sip! |

Seriously... when I looked at the first picture... I thought you were taking child's toys that make sounds and incorperating them in some crazy EDM production. I've seen this done before on child's keyboards, and I guess I was very wrong. |

The Alphapet just happened to fall in my lap. I had to explain this to my girlfriend later.
Anyway, for fun I tried to replicate that cool effect that CERN does with their remix of Astura - Orion's Belt.

Granted it's nothing too special. But when I listened to my new speak and spell I realized where those samples in that effect came from. So I was like: "Wow, I should do some paper-work for my portfolio prep. class, but instead, I'm going to mess around with audio crap till 3:45 am. Hence the above." |

I dont think it should be that hard. In theory what you would probasbly have to do is take the speaker output and convert it to a 1/4 inch output(or whatever you want) then you should be done. If you want to start really messing with the sounds and make it into some crazy synth thing I have a theory that might work. What you can do is use modular synth units and use them at the end of the chain. But this can all be done post recording anyway. |

Good stuff! Except the last letter is meant to be N, not R. :p |

run it on batteries, NOT on the main power.
Open it up
touch stuff with a screwdriver while you have it make sound.
try to connect different contacts together and see what happens :D

Sounds the same as those robotic voices used in DJ Ton TB - Electronic Malfunction, don't know if he used a speak & spell too. The words used are also as random as the topic title suggests :).

Yes. It's definately a speak and spell. The electronic malfunction part isn't a speak and spell though.
:) ;) :eyespop:
EDITx2: Well i've bent one toy so far (link fixed):

Really awesome (I guess, at least im kinda proud, wasn't to hard tho), I soldered in a resistor, and a potentiameter and shorted two solder points on the back of the PC board in that little thing, then I put in a momentary push-button to make it so you could listen to it normally when pressed down. I used a Dremel tool and cut new holes in the case so I could put in the new controls.
Good fun! |
