Great review courtesy of Ivibes.nu, written by RayvinAzn.
The name should say it all, really. Way Out West's trancier half has done a fair bit of production work on his own, and this track is easily on par, if not better than, almost everything he's done solo so far.
Before I kick this review off, I should point out that Beatport briefly offered a remix titled "That Other Mix" (presumably also by Jody), but it was taken down within a day or two, possibly for copyright reasons. It's also worth noting that Distinct'ive's website has no record of this track as of yet, so "That Other Mix" may be available in the future. All I heard was a sample, but the most notable aspects of the remix were a more "progressive" feeling, and a more subdued melody.
Cold Drink, Hot Girl starts off with a simple 4/4 beat, and lets the melody trickle in after a rather short 30 seconds. It has a very consistant build, seeming to gain more and more momentum until around 3 minutes, where it peaks. The melody itself is a very simple and beautiful affair. It's well-pronounced, and not so padded as to make it feel forced. It's a shame that I can't really say that much about it, although there really might not be too much to say. It's just a very appealing, addictive melody. There is a breakdown that occurs around 4:15, a rather well-orchestrated affair that does well to help break things up a bit. Overall this track just...works. It's not brilliant in the sense that it's stuffed with extras, or that it has lots of things going on at once. It's beauty lies in its simplicity, something I'm more attracted to these days.
Conclusion:
This track is an outstanding effort by Jody, and I hope we can continue to see more of this kind of work from him, and possibly see some of it carry over into the Way Out West legacy. I dearly hope to see "That Other Mix" available for purchase sometime soon, since both tracks sounded very nice indeed.
Heard a short sample on Jody's MySpace page. Can't really say much until I hear it in full length. |

| I grabbed both mixes on beatport, but the original really is much better IMO. |

| The reason the Other Mix was removed was because of a glitch in the file that must've occurred when Distinctive sent them the master. Distinctive is taking their sweet time sending a replacement...and don't expect Distinctive web to really be an informant when they're spitting out Y4Ks nonstop (Icey, yuck, tho' the Nubreed was ace)...the WOW stuff takes a backseat as usual. |

Funny even though they are one of the best things on the label.

| no argument here. ;) I've just noticed a lax attitude from them since almost day 1. |

Yeah, there definatelly was a glitch at the beginning of "That OTher Mix"
I was very surprised to hear it since I have come to expect studio-quality from these mp3 downloads and I thought the problem occurred when I downloaded the track. Anyway there is only one little skip at the beginning and I was able to correct it without too much effort :) |
