Yeah, I've been a fan of art all my life. Currently I am taking 3D computer animation at Humber (north campus). We focus not only on animation, 3d modeling, photoshop and flash, but also art fundamentals and history. I love it :D |
wicked. its key to have a nice balance of technical and theory courses.
do you like Conceptual Art? Basically art that does not have a physical image associate it with it?
personally that's one of my fav. art movements. just the fact that the philosophy and idea behind the art piece takes full control and the imagery almost becomes neglected. |

you dont know what you're talking about
it takes forever to master something like this
its like saying if i practice long enough i can become an engineer, how does make any sense
i've used photoshop for years i can safely say that it would take me about 10years to duplicate something like this which wont be even as perfect as this. |
...
you just proved my point dude.

well, to a certain extent, yes.
some people will naturally be able to grasp certain concepts easier than other, but I believe if someone truly put the effort and time to practice and dedicate their life to it, they can learn how to do almost anything.
In my opinion the real art piece comes out in the creative way the artist applies his skills in rendering his image.
it are really comes down to what you make and how represent it.
and as I said... its a very fine line. which imo can be swayed by opinion. |

yeah you're right anyone can learn anything technical, oh like..I dunoo...
pilot an aircraft?
an architect?
a surgeon?
aeronautical engineer?
that takes no skill whatsoever, all it takes is practice...cause "its just technical skill"
and ANYONE on earth can do this ...just takes TIME and zero skill.
gimme a ing break, your 'anyone can become anything' or 'anyone can do anything' logic is a laughable one. |

That started around the 1960's didn't it? If i'm thinking of the same thing, it's not my favorite movement but I have a ton of respect for the idea behind it.
I've always loved Art Deco (architecture in perticular).
also
Andy Warhol is probably my favorite (non-living) artist, classified most often as Pop-Art. I have always liked his use of colour and his compositions.
my fav piece of his....yet i don't know why exactly.

i didn't say or mean that.
I'm saying, there is a fine line between natural skill, and things you learn. obviously, all professions require both natural and taught skill.
and in my opinion, this painting took skill to draw in perspective. whether he did it in photoshop or on paper, etc.
but the use of photoshop was largely (not completely) a thought skill.
and dude, don't take this personally. we're just having a friendly (at least i hope so) intellegent discussion. :) |

| p.s. you guys are arguing about art. That's almost as stupid as arguing about religion. Almost. |

I couldn't agree more, I love examining other peoples perception of art, and just talking about art in general. |

Yeah this is a calm discussion, I don't take anything online personally.:p
Although I don't agree with your views; I think it would be fun to discuss them - after all, perception of art has no right or wrong...as long as you credit any kind of art with the credit it deserves.
anyway this online typing, i'm pretty ing hungover still and I need to get some food...
if we see eachother sometime (sober) we'll fight about it in person!:D |

did you know that taking photographs is a form of art too?
it doesnt take skill right? you just take out your camera, zoom in or zoom out and then take a picture
0 skills involved
btw you should argue about that with shaya, he just takes photos right |

you're miss interpreting what i'm saying.
in ur example of photography:
I'm saying the artistic expression (for the most part) comes from what you photograph, and how you use the technology. Not the physical action of pressing the capture button on a camera. |
