Truffles FTW.

Anyone else see that Iron Chef when they created the most expensive potato with bacon? They added white truffle. I bet that tasted so good.

on masterchef here one of the contestants kept buying truffles & expensive stuff to show off with but in the end got voted off after boring everyone by cooking just expensive like that

That's a crummy chef (I'm sure he was really skilled but if he was going for the win, his strategy should have been around making the most common foods' true essence come out - as cheesy as that sounds).

Is MasterChef really popular in Europe?

i'm not sure if we do it in the same format. it used to be a very posh type of show, a host who speaks it all, and it was very long watching. 2 years ago it got turned into a newer format where they're tested on things, usually given the same ingredients & each mon-thur the top 3 go into the 2nd round and the winners go into the 4 way final on a friday. Our last series (2) finished & it was a guy who won and was a bit of a dick, he was 59 & made so many mistakes, his pro-kitchen work (the prize is to work in a pro kitchen) was never great, an indian woman trying to acclimatise to food outside her region & a younger lad who was really really good, but had no major background so was still learning. the final put them (plus a fourth girl who got voted out after extra tests) into cooking for celebrities, critics, in the arctic for the uk army, in catering, on the QE2 ship at sea (5* accom) and with top chefs over here. they cram it in a bit in 30 mins (1 hour would prob be worrth it or 45 mins minimum) but it's way more watchable now.

American's have amazing breakfasts, better than the dull cereal and toast we have here :(

When I was in New York I had waffles and bacon with sweet butter and golden syrup, and it was quality. Had it 7 days in a row. It's almost worth moving over there to have it.

the funny thing is that the best food i've ever had cooked was in irish restaurants abroad, and you're criticising it :p
