Those lucky enough to catch Fatboy Slim on his recent tour will have caught the funk soul brother's latest show in glorious Palookavision

"What's Palookavision?" you ask. Special cardboard glasses(similar to the old 3d glasses) were developed for Norm's gigs which turn light into smiley faces. It's dificult to describe but if you've ever worn those ravey glasses they sell at hardcore events you'll know the sort of effect we're on about.

The Palookavision glasses were the brainwave of Tim Fleming, the guy behind all of Fatboy's visuals. But how the do they work? Here's the science....

1) The lens is made up from special holospex, a type of perspex, which has hundreds of smiley logos embedded into it.
2) When you put the glasses on, any source of light highlights the holospex smiley logo - thus creating floating smilies in front of your eyes.

An article from March's Mixmag. The mag also comes with a free 70 minute exclusive Ferry mix, which I'll post sometime today.

Talk about hightening the senses. I think that would be a tad too much for most people, especially if they are under the influence of something.

Neat and novel idea, wonder if this type of technology will ever find a useful application.

Yeah, i dunno if i'd like it the whole experience, but I thought it was an interesting idea if nothing else.

BTW the free Ferry CD that I mentioned is now posed under the download thread here:

I'm pretty sure they gave these (glasses) out at his gig at The Docks when he was here.

Edit: No, that was Rabbit in the Moon @ WEMF.
