Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun...?

Hey guys! So here's the deal, I'm working on a new production, but only have a few basics of the "framework" done. Ultimately, there will be a female vocalist, acoustic guitar, and some piano for colorful textures, but the main gearth of this track will by synth.

....I am really trying to go for the same sound that Paul Oakenfold had with Southern Sun. I mean the sounds seem pretty basic, but I'm always caught up in the things like the special FX in tracks. Does anyone have advice on engineering some good trance effects for a vocal trance piece? I'm using Reason 3.0, and Logic Pro 7. I do most of my own engineering in Reason and also the ES2 in Logic.

Any help at all would be much appreciated.

Oh and here's just a basic "sketch" of some of the ideas I'm working with for a verse...I'm still working out a chorus progression. But I ultimately want a LOT of cool sounding effects, and I'm going to stutter some of the vocals, vocode them in some spots, etc. :)

This is early 90's style ALL the way. I love it. LOL I can't stop laughing just listening to this song. I love it and I can't say it enough. It isn't exactly Paul Oakenfold style but I say that because of the breaks you have going with the snare and kick. Still pretty good.

I really like it. really retro, and very pro sounding. I would love to have this when it is finished.

Whoa thanks!

I'm honestly doing this entire track in Reason 3.0. I would do it in Logic but I am still learning the ins and outs. This is my first actual serious synth track though, I'm so used to doing orchestral and jazz stuff. This has always been my true passion though so I feel like a late bloomer in the genre. I will get there hopefully. :)

I should work on making it sound less dated.

Here is me putting the form together a little more, thinking more about the vocals, and where I'll be putting acoustic guitar, and piano somewhere as well (they are all goign to be done live of course). The transitions SUCK, I will be the first to admit. I want to work on making them better, more professional sounding. But I don't have any hardware, so everything I do I'm having to design myself or find patches somewhere and tweak. Thus, why I could really use some help with advice, heh. Ultimately I want to be doing music for video games, also. :)

ps. again, the transitions are almost nonexistant. And this is a VERY thin arrangement. Here's something a little more filled out I did in a few hours:

Ok that second link didn't work. It's entirely unrelated to what I'm doing anyway though.

OK, you'r really good!!
I like your stuff...
You should have more compression and dynamics in your works.

Well, it's not mastered, but at this stage, it need not be. I'd say you're doing a fine job so far.
