About the desk. It's pretty chap, and it's great. You can add those speaker shelves for like $40 bucks , and they are pretty sturdy. They hold my monitor's without a problem. I eaven tried putting both my monitor's on the shelves at the same time, and they hold up. I also like the idea of adjustable desk top. It's really good for what you pay for it.
And novation sl 61 :) that's my next purchase, along the Prosonus fader port(miss my mackie controller)I should say I miss a real fader for use in cubase. I need a good controller, I can't work on a 49 key. I am use to 61-76 controllers. Novation SL is really in the ligue of it's own with all the functionality and quality of it's keyboard, and key action. I am gonna update the studio pics sometimes tonight with some higher quality ones, and of the current setup.You're welcome to stop by and check it out :) |
cool, can't wait to check em out! ;) gives me some inspiration on how i'm setting thing up. the novation sl61 had me drooling when i first saw it, having lcd's to specify what you're controlling is worth the money along...plus all the extras like automapping vsts, aftertouch which is rare on most, and an abundance of knobs etc. Will definately allow for the 'hardware' feel on software :)

my computer needs an upgrade...its only an amd 1.8ghz with 1gb ram. and a 17" crt. so the computer and 2 19" monitor upgrade will hopefully happen this summer. |

1x 24" LCD = 1920x1200 desktop space (less width, more height, no gap)
2x 19" LCD = 2560x1024 desktop space (more width, less height, gap in between)
In all honesty, I'd still go for the 2x 19" LCD's - width means more to me than height, and I don't really mind having a gap. 2x 24" LCD's on the other hand.......Yum! |

It's just a matter of preferance. I worked on two, three monitors before, and it's cool. But right now I can do pretty good with one. :)
Djbuuen , just finished adding pics to the site..If you can't see them yet.. sometimes it takes 30 minutes, for verification.. They are in the Studio 2006 folder.

^ nice pics ;) what are your comp. specs? i definately won't be able to afford it this year, but maybe next, i hope to have 2 computers networked together to maximize efficiency
the thing that sets me back the most is my space is in an open living room. really really sux. living with parents creates limitations :( i can't wait til i get my own house in a few years after saying for a downpayment (luckily i got out of university dept free :cool:). Theres nothing more inspirational than having a good space. I'm going to create a jungle theme when i construct my studio - dark hardwood floors, dusty green walls, and pot lights in the cieling! and then a lot of 'jungle stuff' :D in a couple years if my vision comes true i'll have to post the pics :D |

Hi djbruuen.
For my computer specs.... I got an intel p4 2.66ghz with 2 gigs of ram, 2 hard drives, and 1 external backup drive. Got the zeelman cpu heat sink, it's not that loud, and i've put in some of the quieter fans, But stil the Hard drives makes noise and stuff, So I wanna move the machine to another room, and just run cables from there. That should be no problems since I only would need 4 usb extensions and one monitor extension. For the audio interface I use RME multiface. I need 4 stereo inn's plus I wanted to step up from M audio stuff. Video card is a n-vidia 6200 128 meg, fanless. I sold my TC powercore, since I didn't really need, it, and I have a virus c, so keeping the virus vst was pointless for me. So i got only the video card and one pci card in there.. System runs pretty good, but with some of the stuff today it's outdated, and slow. My gaming machine witch is an amd 64 4000+ puts it to shame.. But i know how to get around some of the limitations so it's not bad. And another plus is that I use alot of the hardware synths, so they don't take cpu, only vst effects, and some vsti do. I try to keep it balanced. I also don't go on the net with that machine at all. I do have it connected to a router just in case, if i wanteed to send something from my other computer, but the cable is unplugged. I don't use any anti virus, don't need it. It's basically all for producing. Never had it crush on me, and maintnance in only a defragmentation once every 3 weeks, depending how much I record.. I am thinking about an upgrade, but just waiting for the prices to drop down a bit. Cuple friends already moved to duall core systems, and it's a huge improvement. I will probably look into something like an amd 64 x2 4400, don't need more.. A project that was at 80% running on my machine was at 18% on theirs in cubase sx3, and that gives me so much more room to play. So I guess 4400 x2 amd is enough for me, and for what I do.. Should last me for a long time to come. I am not really thinking about upgraing to the new windows operating system on my audio machine , and with my current software and hardware arsenal I can do anything, That about 14 years ago when I first started this hobby was somwhat only a dream. |

If you are running reason don't forget you can rotate many 20 and 24" screens. Looks funky, but can give you realestate where it counts.
2 x 20" is far better than one 24" if you ask me.
2 x19" is a tougher call.
If you can spare the extra slot 3 x Screens rocks.. :-) |

| thats cool djdirty...i aswell don't have mine connected to the internet, (i just use a usb jump drive to transport files as needed) and i disabled anything fancy in windows to improve performance. 80% to 18% sounds really good. I agree that i'd avoid the new windows OS. XP works fine and i'm not going to be trusting of something that may be unstable in its preliminary phase. At least wait until the bugs have been ironed out and if any substantial improvements are there. I however am all software, so don't have the luxory of dividing my cpu load. I used to have hardware, but its completly dated based on the the stuff i use now. At this point, i rather invest in 4gb ram opposed to buying more hardware. |

| I upgraded from dual 20" to a single 24" (both dell) mainly because of the sweet spot, before I used to have cubase mixer and lots of plugins open in the second window. |

I've got a couple of 19" CRTs and find their resolution of 1280x1024 is not that useful as usually it's just one program or window on each screen. And 1280x1024 is still the most common 19" LCD resolution. More pixels would be better and the LCDs are capable of that.
Waiting for cheaper wide-screen LCDs with more pixels, next year probably. I think one big wide-screen is probably better than two smaller cheaper screens.
I've got a 15" old-shape notebook screen running 1400x1050 and that's a nice size, the LCD colour is not as good as CRT but it's sharper and for most things the sharpness is more important. If that type of resolution was available on a 20 or 22" LCD well that would be A LOT of pixels! |
