Compilations?

It seems that most trance DJs seem to be producing artist albums now and I can't really find any that I like. (I heard Tri-State recently, and it was flooded with rather sappy vocals, the LEF thing trumpeted by Corsten seems a bit naff...) The thing is, the live sets aren't too bad. Anyhow, my question was, are there any (relatively) new compilations out there that showcase what trance has to offer?

It also seems that while house has moved on from the artist album phase (ehh.. armand van helden's nympho.. heh...), trance has been left behind and most people regard it with some mild elitist distaste.. Anyhowwwwwwww, i've rambled, would someone suggest some compilationss please~?

:)

Perhaps, it seems that are produced a lot of albums. But there also pretty good compilations these days. Search for the threads about these compilations and decide what to listen to.

Commercial:

- In Search Of Sunrise 5 Mixed By DJ Tiesto
- A State Of Trance 2006 Mixed By Armin van Buuren

More serious :

- Balance 009 Mixed By Paolo Mojo
- Renaissance Presents Sequential Mixed By Hernan Cattaneo
- At The Controls Mixed By James Holden

If it was me, I'd go for the more serious . I'm done with the Armin and Tiesto sounds.

i share your problem. i cant find much good these days, and thats sad, because i really apriciate i a good album

however, here are some albums i recommend:

Tiesto - In Search of Sunrise 5 <----this album is really, really good! love it! is there any similar albums out there???
Pole Folder - Zero Gold <----one of the best album ever

im looking forward to albums from leama & moor, Motorcycle??, G&D and Paul Okenfold

That's interesting to hear. My more informed friends find Tiesto distasteful, kind of akin to The Killers in terms of indie rock. But then, it's always somewhat trendy to flame/hate something so blatantly commercial (esp. DJ Sammy, heh). I'll have a listen, to see what there is to hate about. Can't judge everything on the omnipresent Adagio for Strings. heh.

I managed to procure a copy of Holden's At The Controls. In my opinion, it isn't too danceable. Rather slow-moving. I don't mind such tracks, but do they classify as trance? And to think, I really liked the holden mix of the darkest star.. But then, that wasn't really terribly danceable either. Perhaps I dance weirdly. :P

Any other reccomendations?

all british do

to stay on-topic: I'd recommend anything recent from labels such as Digital Structures, Iboga Records, Tribal Vision, to mention just three, to find out what trance has to offer. However, be aware of the fact that this is mostly regarded as "progressive psy" trance. Bits of prog house'ish influences to be found in some releases too (or check out Spiral Trax' sublabel ACDC for some deeper(?) progressive stuff) . No Armin/Tiesto music though

Hah. Maybe I should apply for dancing "lessons". heh. I found the Cattaneo stuff faster paced. .. I'll look into your recommendations. I haven't heard much psy-trance really, so I don't really know what to expect. The Computech album/compilation is quite good, in my opinion.

I'm afraid this topic is rather inactive.. I know I should get off my arse and find something new but I can't be bothered. heh

Ferry's Creamfields comp was far better than Passport. The first disc isn't really trance, though it's my favorite of the two. I thought the 2nd was one of the better trance discs put out last year.

Good rec's.

Check out new stuff from Tegma, Vibrasphere, Sonic Cube, Behind Blue Eyes, Flowjob and Perfect Stranger. New albums coming soon from Atmos, Human Blue and Bakke on Spiral Trax will be worth the $.

Make sure to get Leama & Moor's "Common Ground" arist album. Definitely one of the better artist albums to come around.

most HOT looking album is Prisoners of the Sun (POTS) - Social Success Remixes with remixes from Human Blue, Tegma, Antix, Greed & Sonic Cube, Fitalic, Side-A and more. It's going to be a viciously good CD. Releasedate: May sometimes.
