i decided i would make a thread in regards to this relatively new venue called Eight Below, formerly known as Roxy Blu. owned by peter gatien.
i was there last night for my friends hope & marisa's birthday celebrations. i dont even know where to begin about this place.
we only had the lower level open for our event but the place is beautiful. hardwood floors, nice lighting, the washrooms were pimp. i think the washrooms probably cost more than my house. the staff seemed really friendly too.
now on to the sound and the dj booth...
speakers and bass bins were built in to the walls on each side of the booth with a cloth/cover over the speakers with the words '8 below' printed on them. great highs and heart pounding lows in the sound. the djs played some bass heavy tracks to test the system and we were all very impressed. in the booth you will find two 1200s, two cdj 1000s and a rane rotary mixer (unsure of the model). unlike many booths that ive seen, this one had sufficient lighting for the dj to see what he/she is doing. they even have rane serato set up in there for those that use it.
the last i heard, a big event company in toronto might start hosting saturday nights at 8 Below (or was it fridays? i cant remember). i hope this does well because it has a lot of potential.
i dont have any pics of the room we had but i did get a shot of their booth setup....
jon jon was there too.. and i was told that special k was there as well.. maybe they have other comments about the venue that they would like to add. |

nice to see they have a proper rotary (deep house!) rane 2016 mixer with eq's up in that spot. ;)

peter gatien is listed as a 'consultant' with the hingson group though undoubtedly he's got more control than they want to lead on likely due to his past legal problems in nyc where he was king of clubs, literally. just speculation of course and in now way am i knocking him or the group he's involved with. the past is the past. regardless, the group will surely do well with the financial backing and expertise/experience behind them.
