hello everyone... just wondering what you guys use to make mind bending glitches and things of the sort ;) .
just finished an experimental track (post it soon as i finish the mixing)... heh, experimenting with dropping samples as shapes into an oscillator and screwing around with pitch control.... came out with some pretty twisted stuff.
anyway... just wondering what you guys do... |

I love doing this. I've long wanted to do this as a tutorial. I've actually got a song lying around with that effect that I need to post on the Promotion forum, but I've been deathly busy lately, and haven't had the time.
The best way to make bending noises is to use a saw waveform with some highpass filtering and distortion. Then just find different ways to automate the pitch. |

First of all: You need gating! gating for a stuttering effect, gating to provide a groove, gating to make your track drive.
I recommended the VST dblue glitch which works awesome for this kind of sound, but you can do it all manually of course.
One way is a heavy flanger, which gives you that "jet" type sound if you apply it on a noise waveform.
A triggered Bitcrusher can also produce nice Effects. A good Bitcrusher is E-Phonic LoFI for example.
Another way is obviously the retrigger. In FL, you can just use the arpeggiator to retrigger some noises.
Thats why I like dblue glitch, because it provides all in one, try it!
If you want to make glitchy synths, go random with the filter cutoff. Use Noise Waveforms or even FM synthesis to make the most weird sounds. Sometimes just randomizing a synth can bring interesting possibilities. My favorite synth for this type of sounds is Linplug Albino.
Hope this helped you a little. |

hey Jex and Cy uh... yeah... i'll try that.... but i'm afraid linplug and glitch are costly, and well... i haven't got any money... i might try LOFI... i think i know what the saw waveform does... my cousin showed me some of his stuff...
yeah... i know what the flanger does ;) heh... jets were my hobby before this ;). |
