Cakewalk Rapture is great!

So my dad got me a present for doing some software work for him and his company, it was Cakewalk Rapture. Never having been a big fan of Cakewalk, I didn't really know what to think (With a big "yeah.. uhm, thanks dad.."-smile on my face :p ), but decided to give it a try...
So why has no one talked about this synth!? I know it's new and all, but I must say, it's one evil synth!!
It's a wavetable synth, and basically loads wave files and uses them as waveforms. I'm guessing that some purists will say "the sound quality must be , it's sample based!", but it has a really sweet sound and I can't say the quality is any less than most other synths.
Wavetable synths are usually not the best for trance production, but this thing also has some killer waves great for trance and best of all, it has multi mode, meaning you can play 3,5,7 or 9 oscs/notes at a time and detune them for all your supersaw needs :D ... and another great thing, since it's not really calculating any waveforms by it self, it's very light on CPU, I had supersaw sounds running at 16 voice polyphony and it was only draining 2% CPU.
I just wanted to point it out to people since it's a really, REALLY great synth and I had never heard of it before I got it today. This thing will probably replace z3ta in a lot of areas in my music! (FYI: Cakewalk bought rgcAudio some years ago, and apparently this synth was devloped by alot of the same people that worked on z3ta)
I have some issues with it though. First of all, it can't store banks of presets, and you have to load each sound by hand (you can't scroll between patches saved in the same directory on your hard drive... kinda sucks when you're browsing presets...). Also, I couldn't get FL Studio to do any automation, whenever I clicked Last tweaked parameter, it just gave me some bogus knob and the automation wasn't read :( Hopefully this'll be fixed in upcoming versions.
And lastly here's a quick sample for you, bass and lead are both Rapture..
Cheese alert!!!!!! (this was done in about 15 mins in FL Studio, I apologize for the extreme cheesy-ness of this clip :D )

Oh, and the slow cutoff automation was actually done with the 128 step sequencer built into the synth, since I had some trouble doing regular automation in FL :) |

Just noticed on kvraudio.com that Cakewalk are working on an update that should fix "usability bugs" :) .. should be out very soon
Edit: And I found out that if you shift click the name-field in the top left corner you get a list of all the presets in the standard programs folder, so just dump any preset collections in there, and you can skip through them very easily :) |

Is that clip supposed to be Love theme Dusk? :)
Sounds good. Good for 15 minutes work in FL that is.
Might give it a try. I'll look for a demo. |

| 2nd part on that clip has almost the same harmonies as Love Theme Dusk! :) hehe. Nice though. Made anything not-so-cheesy with Rapture since you got it? |
