Edit: I should clarify, I don't mean just "rotary," because I love the Xone 92 Rotary, but I guess I mean this style of Rotary, or like the Rane Rotary... I just don't understand them.

No better time to learn then now! Here -- start by buying this one on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1

The owner just replaced it with a DJM-800. ;-)

I think a lot of DJs freak out when they see a rotary. I'd probably have a hard time in front of a v6 until I got the hang of it. The EQ's on that thing perplex me. But they aren't all bad. The world needs the v6 so lets hope it doesn't go away.

Well, I've never had the opportunity to actually play on one, so all I can go on are the pictures I look at on sites like Allen & Heaths... http://www.xone.co.uk/images/Hi-Rez..._main_hires.jpg

Now, when I look at this, I guess I do understand a lot of how the mixer is set up, but the biggest thing I don't understand is how you EQ each channel. I see volume knobs and what appear to be EQ nobs on the right, but how are they assigned to each channel?

I know this sounds like a n00b question, but honestly, I'm from Wisconsin, and people here are genuinely shocked and blown away by the fact that when I play out I bring my own mixer (A&H Xone 62) because they've never seen such a nice piece of equipment... We don't exactly have a ton of 2000-5000 dollar rotary mixers chillin' in our clubs here. I've always wanted to learn though, as I think it's irresponsible to not be able to adapt to whatever is installed in a club.... Figured this would be a good thread to voice my noobness in. :clown:

Another thing getting slaughtered by this are Church Organs. Apparently they contain a lot of lead and theres no other way to do it properly.

They're not. You don't eq, because it doesn't have any. There are hi-pass filters instead. If you really want eq's, you can buy a separate eq module for it, or three of them (at $2000 a piece) if you want permanent eqs on each channel. Similarly, the Rane MP2016 offers the XP2016 expansion if you really need eqs.

But basically, there are no eqs on the stock unit. Traditionally, all transitions are done with the volume pots only. But the hi-pass filters do the job quite nicely. You get the hang of it. The one I used had no eq units, but it did have a VF-1, which was awesome. It also had a crossfader, for some reason. I don't know why the hell anyone would buy that (another $2000) for a V6, it kinda defeats the purpose: pure mixing.

Thank you so much dude... So just so I'm kind of clear on this, would it be similar to mixing using the highpass filter on my Xone, and then you just EQ the master?

If I'm totally missing the point, feel free to mock me... :clown:

Exactly! Except there's a hi-pass filter for each channel, so it's used like the low EQ.

Well what about guitar amps??? All the high end or at least decent guitar amps all run with tube or at least one should expect them too.

such opinionated replies could only possibly come from:
A. A completely clueless tool.
B. Someone who thinks they know it all ( when really they don't ).

Either way you're an idiot for not realizing that everyone has their own personal preferences; and just because you happen to not like this kind of mixer doesn't mean you are allowed to discredit everyone elses opinion on the product.
blacknoizybox
WHA???? i didnt say anything regarding anyones preferences, i said the rotary faders are RETARTED, which means i would not prefer to buy them because i dislike them. man....

....anyways..im sorry if i offended anyone personaly/directly/indirectly.. PM me for my CC details :toothless

Im confused about how a fader can be retarded...
Why would you buy a sports car (eg. ferrari) that doesnt even have a radio?
